We’ve already recouped yesterday’s loss plus a bit so let’s hope it’s an indicator for the rest of the day.

Still clinging on to NatWest as I’m nearly 12% down on my average. Hopefully, they will ride out the present storm. Results due tomorrow. Board of Directors behaved like nincompoops.

Thanks for your honesty, Bot. I think you’ve mentioned your RR experience before.

In the medium to longer term I think you will d9 better with CCL. They say patience is a virtue - I just wish I had some.

I agree - I think I have been saying consistently that I am into CCL for the long haul.

I know full well that if I ever tried day-trading I would be selling at the bottom and buying at the top!

The other part of this is, of course, that the UK stock is a kind of subset of CCL in the US so its price is pretty much dictated by the US price. Bo has already explained that we can only but the GBX share but in the US any one of three different versions can be held.

Still not sure this gets to the root of why there are such wild fluctuations over relatively short periods of time.

Anyway, doesn’t affect my actions/holding. Just waking for recovery to something approaching pre-pandemic level.

The minute by minute fluctuations would indicate that there is something or someone at play here.

Bot’s explanation explains the “tanks” we get at 14:30 I think but not sure about, e.g. the 10p troughs and peaks that have happened so far today.

I thought the other day of one more question. On Carnival’s own figures, there are some 146,000,000+ tradeable shares. How can that many shares have such volatile movements during a day? It can’t be from trading alone, can it?

Any bets on where we’ll finish? It was a 40p dive in the end. No logical explanation…..

At least it has now clawed its way back to its opening price! Maybe we shall have a small gain on the day after all?

Typical pattern today - slow climb from opening after weekend then a dive wiping out that gain plus a bit.

Day-trader’s dream - only if they timed it right, of course.

One thing I take from the cruise line industry, represented by Carnival and listening to their webinars, is that it is not directly affected by any of the usual depressing forecasts about economic performance or inflation or interest rates simply because folk like their holidays and will not sacrifice them unless absolutely forced to.

How3ver, the one thing that does affect share prices in the sector is sentiment. Having said that, when numerous agencies upgrade their view, not a lot seems to happen. When they downgrade it’s a whole different story.

Suffice to say there are many views about CCL any or all or none of which could prove to be right. Only hindsight will tell and as my dad used to say, the only thing that is useful for is telling whether the loo seat is up or down.

Each to their own, I suspect.

I am more than happy for anyone to express their view, justified or justifiable or not.

Yours is probably the most pessimistic I have seen either here or anywhere else. I suspect therefore that your biggest decision is when to sell and when to dive back in.

For me, that isn’t a consideration as I have said before that I am in for the long haul. Like Topo, Bot, K and others I believe that Carnival have now been able to set a trajectory which will take the price eventually to £30+. It isn’t going to happen next week or even this year. For me, when it gets to £23/24 I shall have tripled my investment. At that point I shall seriously consider selling and buying an annuity!
