How does their day off cover get the van? Where do they take the mail from colod? What if you live in a small cull de sac or better still, a block of flats? How does the 7.5tonn truck that goes round to each individual walk holders house in the morning get access? Who sorts their mail? Nobody is gonna sign out a special then take it round to some posties house for them to deliver. Where do the p739 packets go back?

Trough. What about special delivery, miss sorts, door to doors, accidents while out on delivery, posties phoning in sick, cover for sick posties, transport and equipment to deliver the post and packets 'dropped off at the posties house's ' . ???? You haven't really given it much thought.

Charlie, your post was maybe earlier because they had a night shift on over Christmas period to help get posties out the door earlier, possibly nothing more in it than that.
I do agree with your view, and have stated it in the past, that parcels take much longer than letters to process and deliver and I'm not sure the revenue per minute so to speak is as high as letters which we're told are declining at 6-7% yr.

Hopefully you'll take your profit before the div is cut. You forgot to mention the EPS and dividend cover. Conveniently. I'm not trying to talk the company down. Just being realistic. I know first hand how rubbish the management are. Lazy headless chickens, by and large. Until you sort that problem, royal mail is going nowhere fast. I'm glad I should only have a few yrs left to do.

So.....we get rid of our distribution network, outsource ALL of our distribution. What happens when the outsourced company let's us down? BIG FINE. What happens when we have got rid of all our distribution network vehicles and our outsourcing company wants to put their price up? We would have no choice or else ,guess what, BIG FINES. People spout some rubbish on here, mostly those without a clue about our business.

Outsourcing distribution? Have you any idea what our distribution network is like? From 3.5 tonners to double decker HGV to trains to aircraft. How much would someone else do that for, really?

Guess Brexit woes are still the major influence and driving force behind the UK markets ATM.

Just one point. The hrs are most certainly not there for a sww in our office. Without 20 % of people working their days off and 25% of part timers being paid to come in early for prep, the place would simply grind to a halt. We have duties, mine included, that are impossible to do in 38 hrs, let alone 35. I'm on average 6 hrs over every week. I've been 10 hrs over for the last 2 months that's with an hrs help each day in the last 4 weeks. NOTHING is being done to change ANYTHING to 'make the sww pay for itself'. Maybe it's just our office......but I doubt it.

Contract hrs are getting shorter for full time, possibly longer for part time. All the full timers that used to run round, will not if all it means is more work. Part time get paid more per hr now than full time, and they also get it on leave or sick ( full time don't get any benefit from sww then as you're not actually at work) . As far as pda actuals, so far, nothing being done in our office to use this properly. It's just used to threaten people that might be seen as slow (aka those who do the job correct to a high standard) whereas the ones who still run round and finish early are overlooked. It's a bullying and harrasment tool for managers rather than a tool to even the office out and make things more efficient. Re. The proposed new pension, so you're saying, if the financial matkets go tits up ,or those in charge of our money have a bad year, we don't get a pension that yr? And you reckon thats good?

FTSE 100 tracker funds having to unwind their positions as we are no longer in thr the ftse 100. Maybe. Who knows, thats my hunch if the figures are to be believed.

The sww isn't proving to be self funding. In practice, part timers are getting paid an increased hr rate and full timers are getting an extra hr overtime a week.

I'd like to believe you on the pension, however I think you are duluded with your view of it, with respect.

Just gotta console yourself by saying you'll never buy at the bottom or sell at the top, as long as it's somewhere in between and it's profit, that's what its about. Looking at gold now though.........lol

I prefer a conservative approach myself, much better to underplay it and over deliver. Unlike when lenigas was involved, although the sp was much higher then, on promises rather than actual revenue generating oil out the ground. Go figure.

We were probably over valued at £6 and probably now under valued at £2.85. The drop isn't just coz were gonna make a bit less profit than was forecast, it's to do with the outlook of the country, and world to an extent, in the medium to long term. In short, things don't look good. It's also because we fell way short on the forecast savings and the CEO has neglected to give any insight into how he proposes to improve the situation. Just saying, ' we'll have a five yr plan next February' doesn't really cut it with investors. We have also been booted out the FTSE 100 , so all the tracker funds will have had to unwind their positions. Also shorters are feeding off of all this to make it worse still. .... so, as you see, not 'just' a small profit warning .

Country is in a mess. Everyone wants a bargain, and that's okay but with the boot on the other foot, the retailers have to make enough money, and conversely, people want wages to rise but not prices of goods. This is never gonna work is it. It will all unfold soon. We're all doomed. Oh merry Christmas everyone as well . 😉
