Don't think you can generalize like that. There are plenty of decent Hermes delivery drivers, just as there are plenty of royal mail staff who leave stuff in bins. We're definitely not supposed to, but with managers pushing like mad for 1st time delivery, some posties sadly do, and so let the company down.

That's the crux of the matter though, isn't it? We are not now a national Postal service. Unlike Aus post, we are now a private business, not govt owned, so why should we have to still deliver to any address in the UK for the same price, six days a week?

What competition do Aus post have and do they have to play by the same rules? We at royal mail, have our hands tied to the USO which our competitors don't. The regulator doesn't look like letting us off the USO leash any time soon, so you're dream of just upping the price of stamps or us only delivering five days is a no go, even though I think posting a letter in Penzance and expecting it to get to john o'groats in less than 48 hrs, for less than a pound, is bloody good value. The constraint of the USO has meant us making a loss on letters for some time. As a private business, we should be able to say, let's just forget letters and just do parcels..... but we can't. Btw today's overtime bill for delivering black Friday backlash was probably in the region of £2-3million. Just the overtime. Just today.

Why do people need reminding to post Christmas cards by having one gimmicky singing post box in 4 capital cities? You can't go out in any town without seeing royal mail vans, so why do you think someone thinking up a singing post box should get a bonus I'll never know. They probably did btw. There's more important things to be doing though, like making sure there are enough staff to actually deliver the letters on the day they're meant to be delivered. Parcels btw are through the roof today. There was a van share going out today in a vauxhall combi, granted not the most spacious of vans, and they literally couldn't get anything else in it. Packed from front to back and floor to roof.

The new deal is not as good as the old sharesave scheme now you would have to wait 5yrs from each individual months purchase to get them tax free, and you have no control over the price you're purchasing at. Before, it was an option to buy at a set price of 360 and you could either purchased shares at end of term or have your money back. We're on £11.35 hr btw, unless you work in London.

No we can't do time slots. Only guarantees are special delivery, either before 9am or 1pm. Other than that, it'll come sometime between 10am and about 6pm this time of year. We will never be able to give 1hr time slots while delivering mail at the same time. Only if they split mail and packets and have dedicated packet van driving duties like we used to have before shared vans, will they get anywhere near that service.

Will always stagnate as we have our hands tied to deliver letters and parcels to the tune of the USO. Parcels are on the up however take far longer to process and deliver with resultant increase in wage bills. Does the extra revenue more than cover the extra cost? Who knows, but judging by the profits , possibly not. Not sure how exactly this situation can change, it's a tricky one.

If local office managers cook the books ( and they do) ,why do you think their bosses and their bosses bosses aren't capable of it.? It's an almost weekly occurance that you're underpaid your overtime by 10 mins here, 20 there.
