RE: Twitter AUO 27" displays11 May 2018 17:39
This is an interesting discussion. I reckon these launches are a very important milestone. Firstly, they are the first display products I know for sure contain Nanoco's dots. I forget how though. Just got the 'yes they are' switch turned on from previous research. ... and secondly, they will set a quality benchmark others are going to be clamouring to catch up with.
Early indications imply a step change in image quality and performance over existing technology.
They are very expensive though. It will take a 2,500 PC minimum to start getting the best out of them. I don't think 5% of gamers can afford 5,000 Mars1. However, don't count out AOC. I definitely saw a release schedule that had all 3 monitors launching around the same time. I don't think we hear much about the AOC one because it's China only.
So let's conservatively guess Nanoco pulls in 0.5M from this.
NVIDEA's BFGDs are not going to be far behind. I think they will cause even more of a splash. They are also bound to very expensive but come with added living room appeal and more inches. I can see them doing better than the 27" monitors but let's say 0.5M again.
NVidea's next gen 1180 specs just got leaked (pinch of salt). It beats a 1080 Titan. That should bring our monitors towards the mainstream, especially if they get a price drop at the same time, and sales should take off.
Then comes 8k TVs.
I'm starting to see where Peel Hunt get their revenue guidance from. We should be there or not far behind with a great launchpad into 2019.
All it would take is a more mainstream 4ker or two in there to start hitting really good revenue. Or, heaven forbid, Dow figuring out how to sell a few.
