Hope they do Mars1 but I think they'd mention QD if they were using them and as Nigwit said the micro LED QD roadmap has commercialisation a few years off yet. They would have had to have made some big leaps forward. My guess is they are just highly refined LEDs. The threat comes if they start achieving QD level performance.

Nope. Don't think they're available. Mars1 posted a link to AUO's pre-show announcement for SIDs 2018 in a previous thread. It focused on new screens for mobile devices, IoT and in vehicle. Micro LED back lighting increased accuracy and brightness to 1000 nits. No mention of colour performance. I guess this is because mobile screens need to be a slim as possible so adding dots is not the way to go while they add to screen depth. Confusingly the announcement included what looked like ambiguous statements to other product lines such as high performance gaming monitors that kept the waters as muddy as ever in the display industry.

That is the other point Nigwit. None of the reports on these new panels mention WCG.

I'm sure they would mention QDs if they were present. I think the best way to read these reports is that AUO have developed micro LED panels that can display 1000 nits brightness. Interesting line for us might be, "Combining color conversion technologies, the display is able to yield even more marvelous and accurate colors." Maybe adding QDs is the next step on the roadmap?

BtB, they're not for me and not for your gamer friends but gamers are a diverse bunch. I don't think these monitors will sell large amounts straight off the bat but they are setting new benchmarks that, probably faster than we anticipate, will become the new mainstream.

That struck me a very lazy article when I read it BtB. No monitors come close to having all the specifications combined. The Dell monitor given as a comparison for example doesn't just lack the 144hz refresh rate (50% less by the way) as stated but it also lacks GSynch and FALD. It's nothing like as good for gaming or video basically and only $450 less. The article is reporting as now as well. It does acknowledge the potential for cost cutting by calling out the NVidea module. I'm pretty sure that once the OEMs have captured the early adopter market they'll have plenty of scope to cost cut. At the same time other OEMs will find it hard to match these specs and come looking to AUO to provide the same technology and we should really start to see some sales.

Good post BtB. I agree with all of that including an oncoming correction and seeing Nanoco as a safe haven. In my case because it's starting from 0 production with some growth hopefully locking in over the medium term. It can't drop any more and doesn't need much to kick on to the next level.

Given these monitors are going for the very high end AUO, Wah Hong and Nanoco have a lot riding on them being the absolute best money can buy. Going by these previews they've achieved that. They will be a great advert for all 3 companies and at the very least attract more OEMs to build products using the same technology. Once these things are out I think Nanoco will be able to claim they are the market leader in terms of quality. However, BtB, on volumes. I expect initially they will be low for obvious reasons. Still enough to put a few 100k on Nanoco's bottom line :-) To run one properly on current technology one would probably need a dual 1080ti set up which, given those rigs have top notch components in every area, can easily run north of 3 grand. 1180 spec leaks reveal it will drive these monitors pretty well though. That should bring capable PCs down to the �1,500 to �2,000 range and therefore significantly toward the mainstream. It will also come with a drive toward more HDR content in PC games. I would hope for a sales surge post July. Hopefully with price cutting on the monitors and some good Black Fridays / Cyber Mondays for Nanoco. A couple of questions though. What do you all think of the spec changes when looking at the 32" and other products in the pipeline? Are they using the same CFQD technology?

After suggesting the release of Nvidea's 11 series cards will boost the sales of these fancy new monitors rumours are now suggesting the 1180 will be out in July. Could be a good second half of 2018 for Nanoco.

I agree Mars1. I also think it is caught up with delays to the 11 series graphics cards whether explicitly stated or not. Until they're out driving these screens is going be an ultra-enthusiast activity due to the price. Why rush and not take a bit of extra time to make them perfect. On TVs, I would rather see OEMs shouting about them now rather than AUO. There's still a long path to market there. Good to see AUO marketing hard though.

I was a touch disappointed by, "ship by the end of this year," For the BFGDs actually. I'm sure the message used to be out mid-year. Feels like a delay even though the BFGDs are breaking a lot of new ground and delays are to be expected.
