The only thing that strikes me as a bit strange is that many telecomms companies are installing their 5G infrastructure now. BT has been for the last year for example. Also, high volume contracts for new tech with complex supply chains are signed well in advance. So, IQE should be getting paid for this stuff now. It's hard to see where a positive surprise would come from outside what's already in company guidance.

The receiver side is another matter. I expect most of the contracts to supply wafers for all the handsets, laptops, IoT devices, etc haven't been signed yet.

Indeed. It's worth a speculative pop. I bought a small amount with money I could afford to lose at 18.75p. If it doubles I'll review the fundamentals driving it but probably sell half to get my money back and let the rest ride.

I'm not saying it is but it has the hallmarks. On Matt McCall's behalf not Thinkolator. I certainly wouldn't suggest it's by Ilika. In fact such things usually damage the company in question rather than help.

The claims of upside are outrageous while at the same time being vague and mysterious but also set to deliver in a short time period. It feels like something crafted to make someone think they have found a secret pot of gold. I don't know what the motivations are. It might just be to sell a lot of newsletters. With a small market cap company any wave of new investors are likely to cause an SP spike that will drop back when expectations aren't realised anyway which would have the same effect of a pump and dump.

I certainly don't think Ilika will have many multi-billion dollar markets all sewn up in a few years. Thonkolator's opinion seems much more balanced - the markets are coming, there's loads of competition, there are likely to be multiple winners and there are several challenges to get passed first.

I do hope they get the first licensees on board soon though thereby creating a sustainable rise in the SP if not 27000%

Sounds like a hype fest pump and dump at this stage though. "Quantum Glass" is a made up name which sounds very cool. Thinkolator's words of caution are more important than the newsletter I think ;-) I wouldn't mind a 27000% rise though.

5G is vital. I think the dirty tricks over it's control are only just starting and for all their complaining about China the US is the king of industrial espionage. No evidence has been put forward regarding Huawei's spying infrastructure. I reckon the current campaign to boycott them is US skullduggery in a belated attempt to get some hold over this strategic tech. Europe's in the race ahead of the US. Expect all sorts of shenanigans including possibly a fight for control of IQE. 2019 will at least be an interesting year.

They're big numbers alright. I wouldn't normally think such a big programme would deliver anything very soon but the technologies in question - 5G, self driving car sensors, IoT, etc are all big business now. So, expect rapid progress. Odd that it didn't deserve an RNA.

The consensus of analysts on CNN, Bloomberg, CNBC, etc is that the US has lost the 5G race. Nokia and Ericsson; and Huawei have it sewn up but that Huawei has the better tech. With Huawei's political troubles I wonder if Europe is making a push to get out in front and own 5G.

I would like more detail to be sure of that. I can think of many road blocks depending on the exit scenario but it is encouraging that the programme hasn't been delayed at all pending the outcome.

Great news. Ironic timing indeed and double ironic coming for leave voting Wales. I assume since this is a new and recent announcement our intention to leave the EU won't affect it. It definitely won't if we decide to stay :-)

Interesting theory Diplomat65 but I'm sure sending what would essentially be a spy at a high level into a company in order to collect information prior to making a takeover bid would be highly illegal no? To the point whereby if it was discovered would cause a scandal that could bring the whole of SoftBank down.

While I think a takeover by SoftBank is not off the table at all (for two reasons - IQEs technology does fit nicely in so many cutting edge applications and SoftBank appear to indiscriminately buy everything they can anyway) I'm sure it would be unrelated to Tim Pullen's appointment.
