Agreed, but we have a long wait for the final results if they keep to same timetable as last year when they announced 12 March.
Perhaps the divi declaration in February may give us a clue ?
Certainly would be pleased to see these little gems push through, and stay through tihs £2 mark which seems a barrier for them at present.

As I understand it, am not saying I am totally correct as it is a labyrinthe this project, the actual dividend & specific payment date has yet to be annonced, but a good indication given ?
A lot of press/commentator coverage on this has mentioned a buyback & a dividend, a recent one is 12 Dec on motley fool which is easily googled.

I am not a politician either but I do know the difference berween zero tarrifs and even 3% or 5% increase in cost, I also know the difference between a hard currency & a soft one, so, I venture to suggest, does the TSCO management.

Your Aldi Lidl point is something I totally agree with.
Food from UK, but hardware/household cleaning is nearly all German, so how competitive will that be next year ?

Totally agree with you re TSCO, I can understand investors might be put off with the special divi/possible share buyback scenario, my memory of Vodafone paying a special divi after the Verizon sale made me less than I thought due to the tax the divi attracted and not all my Vod were in ISA/SIPP wrappers. That is not a mistake I intend to replicate in TSCO, but I have been a keen buyer (in wrappers!) recently as I see it to be a lowish risk good yielder with a strong upside potential.
No competitor can come near them for online capacity, imo, and they seem to be soundly managed now, moving in a clearl direction .

I was thinking rather the same, with Tesla & Tinder running through their usual motions, realising it was rather sad that Syd James & Barbara Windsor are no longer with us so that we now go from "Carry on Camping" to Carry on Marstons, or given that the T&T posts register highly on any popular BS detector perhaps someone else has an apt name for it, please not Khyber or Khazi though.

I know I am not alone on this board in thanking you for your time to give us your thoughts which are, to investors, valuable information. From what you say about the bigger picture it looks to me like the stock might be a little bit ahead of itself at present.

Perfectly true, but this is surely more sensitive to covid than Brexit currently ?
Also it has outperformed the market today which is why Daaves input is invaluable as to furloughs influence.
Important thing at presnt is a low cost base and being able to stay in the game for a year or until progress starts to emerge ?

You are closer to the costs of running hospitality venues than many of us on this board, would you agree that the increase in the furlough timescale probably accounts for the strong price (over & above the market) today ?

I feelthe same, usually people steer clear of stocks effectively controlled by a single family, as JIM is, but had they not been in control I am sure this would have been absorbed by someone like II as the traditional independent platforms (Alliance for instance) have now become as rare as rocking horse manure. Long may Jim carry on !

Some Slater Walker companies used that trick many years ago, then a few other listed stocks, the largest of which at the time was Lucas, no pensioners ever benefitted by investing in their own company, to my knowledge.
The old adage of keeping your income separate from your capital has never really been disproved.

Isn't it nice, for over 48 hours, not to have to suffer T&T adverts (Tesla&Tinder), not hear how clever someone is and just watch the share price, hopefully, stabilise.
I know we have masses of tank traps on the way to proper prosperity in this stock, not the least of which are debt (self inflicted) & lockdowns (politically inflicted), plus what ever 2021 throws at us but to be able to see no noise on this board is a right result, IMHO.

Let us hope we see a brexit resolution soon, don't know about you but I am regally fed up with all the games delays etc, I suspect we might still be on hold until after Christmas. Nevertheless, with that out of the way we "just" have covid to worry over, though with luck the vaccine should stifle fears there by Spring.

Marstons is not, & never has been, in the FTSE 100 though, has it ?
I believe it is in the 250 still and year to date that index is only about 10% off its 2020 high. The 100 is a completely different index as it contains mainly international companies, most of which derive a substantial part of their revenue in overseas currencies.
Marstons are certainly not in that category, they have very little overseas business, no overseas pubs or rooms to my knowledge and a few cases of beer for sale in specialist shops, British Bars etc, nothing of any great importance.

Thanks for that clarification, sadly the animal welfare lobby seem to continually put out misinformation, it is a sensitive subject to many and deserves reasoned thought, not hyperbole.
What you say about Macdonalds is something I know a little about & you confirm my own information.
SP wise I suspect that once the special divi is paid more buyers will appear as the way this divi is constructed is similar, I believe, to the way Vodafone did theirs upon the Verizon disposal & PI's plus net funds like oeic's were subject to heavy tax, I certainly was in Vod, but if you hold in an isa or sipp it is OK.
If you are a high rate tax payer you wouldn't be buying Tesco now to pay tax on the divi at your top rate and to carry forward the capital loss (if you can), at a much lower rate.
