I have to agree with you, if they have spare cash there is litle point in them hiking the dividend when it already yields almost 8%.
It just looks an oddly undervalued stock to me, so I continue to pick some up on bad days.

Indeed, sometimes patience is king.
It usually is with these "sleeper" stocks and then they wake up, largely because the investment community these days all seem to like crossing the road together.

Considering the rather excitable vitriol that you spew out about the UK, anyone reading your posts on a plethora of other stocks on the LSE boards, will realise that it is so obvious what you are about to say that they would not be awarded a Scouts detection badge for pointing it out.
I do wonder though, for someone who appears to love the Costa's, why you waste so much time on repetitive postings about how our stocks are all rubbish, perhaps, between your cheap Spanish beers and cuba libres you might find time to wonder if you could use your time (which you clearly have plenty of), in more productive pursuits ?
Just thinking out loud.....

I also added this afternoon down at current levels, they do feel to be an overlooked / unloved stock which truthfully has enormous potential in the medium term

It is indeed amusing when you see the "faux passion" in which some posters purport to believe, even more amusing is for them to think that their opinions on this board could ever influence a shareprice in even a modestly sized stock such as Marstons.
Granted they might have more success on some really tiny AIM shares, especially when the "twitterati" decide to descend en masse to a stock which for the past month or so has traded by appointment only.
I did use to think that the odd market maker might have posted something to suit his book but some of the comments are so off the wall and the memories of some posters so short that no MM would even bother. What is possibly instructive is that some posters did happen to join LSE on the very same day, funny that, eh ?

There is much sense in your thoughts re UK market, Insurance is unloved, as financials they are about as unpopular as banks, except smaller insurance co's, like DLG, are viewed almost as if they are toxic, rather like supermarkets were last year, now everyone wants them since Morrisons.
I am confident that if these do not rerate a VC co, or similar, could well come sniffing.

I trust they are not going to turn into a value trap as I've topped up again today, a pe of 11 & a yield of 7.7% does seem to me a cheap offering & currently available to buy at just under 290p inclusive of stamp duty & (a cheap) brokerage fee, for a company with a good business model.

Good to see you back on here, as far as not getting too attached to stocks the old adage "it's never as good as it looks & it's never as bad as it looks" is a safe one to hang onto.
Cetainly hospitality & transport appear to be in favour but the staff issues are pretty bad.
I was having a meeting just off the Kings Road, Chelsea yesterday, Kings Road was heaving with people (Chelsea flower show was on) but the pub we went to for lunch was very quiet with just a manager & 2 staff, reduced menu of course.
So it is a bit of a chicken & egg situation at present, if they find more staff will they find more customers ?
Sit tight & wait is probably all we can do.

My point was that as there is a premium (unknown how much) on IHT free stocks that if they were no longer eligible the price would tumble sharply.
My guess is most posters here are in & out investors but a lot of others read the board & do not post which is why I wanted to clarify the position.
Of course HMRC can end the scheme at any time but that is a different issue & for sure JIM are aware and seem keen on keeping themselves eligible.

I did something similar but after my 56% odd sale I reinvested the cash into VOF which was on over 20% discount and sold my balance of VNH to add to the VOF whilst still on that discount.

A very good point, I see from the Tuesday announcement that the CFO has no shares at all, unless I misread it that seems most odd.
I still think they are cheap but am not so enthusiastic as I was now I see the BoD not putting much skin in the game.

Interesting your take on occupancy rates in the North, certainly in London where I live the picture is more a glass half empty than half full, reason being that staff issues seem to prevail. 2 locals to us where pre covid we'd enjoy going for a few drinks & a plate or three, one has no staff to open their kitchen & the other (a gastro pub) is on a very short menu due to staff shortages.
Neither are Mars pubs but it gives you an idea of the issues pubs are facing down here.
A report in City a.m. today said that "City Pubs group" were doing well so perhaps where we live is not a true reflection, breeds caution though.
