Oh yes the MM's had it off nicely today, open up at 270/80, rattle the cages and drop them to 255/65, scoop up the panicked sellers loose stock then run them back up to 275/85, all before 12.45 thus giving themselves time for a nice lunch....

In theory yes, I would broadly agree except that City A.M. are currently running a story saying that pubs & supermarkets are in some cases unable to open today due to lack of staff caused by the "pingdemic".
Greene King have been forced to close 33 pubs in the past week and the MD of Iceland has said that for the first time he is being forced to close stores today.
I doubt that MARS has missed this obstacle.

I follow your thought process re a possible higher divi, but what I was trying to do was to establish a sensible 2021 baseline which I hope 14p is.
To my mind this divi yield in a growth stock is superb, sadly I see few other opportunities like this at present !

You were correct, I thought they might hold some in reserve for next year, but no complaints my end.
I guess it is not unreasonable to think that the quarterlies with these numbers & outlook will be +/- 3.5p each, making 14p or a yield of 5.1p before this years special ?
I note that they tend not to pay the same divi each quarter, rather pay out of what they made in past quarters and feel is not required in the business, but they could easily end up at 14p.
This is a well financed, very well run business in the digital age, their website is far from cutting edge but it does what is expected of it & their follow through on queries etc is first class, this IMHO makes a big difference compared to some other cheap platforms, like the Banks have.

You are quite correct in taking discharger with salt, but might I suggest all the salt in Cheshire as opposed to just a pinch ?
On the hospitality trade front, which is what most of us are here for, I'd arranged a meeting Thursday with some old colleagues in a Davys wine bar, normally very popular in City of London area, they had virtually no food and we were the only people who entered from noon to gone 5pm. They also were low on wine stocks. Three of us took a swift "sniffter" at 11.30 in a pub close by, we doubled the number in that pub for the half hour we were in there for, all in all not a good look for hospitality businesses in central London at present.
Same story in Docklands, pubs less busy than you'd think with this weather but restaurants very busy. The reverse to what I'd expected tbh. Of course London is not the UK & it might be local reasons why this is the case, but staff shortages in ordinary to upper medium grade establishments seem no problem, the very fancy places are short of very well trained staff.
One hopes this will improve & pubs start booming, is it a generational thing I wonder ?

Very unlike you to take offence with posters but your comments on braggers is spot on ! Many here have similar opinions.
However you are also someone who is generally meticulous with facts, please look at the motley fool article again and you will see superdischarger is trying his usual double two step to confuse people ! Not for the first time on this board for sure....
The fool article is in 2 parts, the 1st being a synopsis on MARS with the writers summation of "he would like to see some evidence (of debt reduction) before he dips his toe in". Not quite what he'd say for a raving buy is it ?
Then read on about the tech stock that was suggested, "since 2016" that is a totally different stock, the name of which is only revealed to you if you sign up for it to one of MF's offers.
Clearly this is not MARS, almost certainly a Nasdaq stock, but whizzline, to his/her credit, picked that up straight away.
This is a classic example of discharger and accuracy being mutually allergic.
Have a good weekend in the decent weather & knock back a few of your favourite bevvy's whilst the sun is still out !

HY out and look good to me, revenue up 19% & 27.9% increase in profit against same period last year.
No mention of divi that I can see other than the sale of shares increases amount for distributable income once the court agreement is signed so I read (hopefully) that there might be a special divi soon.
Figure that strikes me most though is the revenue per employee, annualised, is almost £258,000.
Few financial service companies can come close to that.

So the sale appears to be from the Northern VCT group they bought, the old owners starting to unwind?
I thought they were on a 3 year lock in, perhaps that did not include all their stock.
Do you read it that way ?

I guess the Norwegian fjord Kapitan is correct on Invesco, Woodfords 20% ish is long gone but I suspect at these levels Master Barnett's 20%ish must be close to what he paid so after he is "hasta la vista" I presume the new brooms are having a good sweep ?

I certainly hope RF is tucked up out of the way somewhere, a purchase like that with our likely cash flow at present would really add more "brewers droop" to our SP !

RNS today showing another lump of nil cost options have been doled out to the "groovy gang" at the top.
They seem to be quite free & easy passing these out to each other....

I see Youngs announced today they are selling 56 pubs for £53 million to "raise firepower to upgrade other premises", odd that MARS went in opposite direction, taking on a very similar number of sub optimal pubs from Brains.
Time alone will tell who was right.
