An ex CEO mate said that the Lawyers were there at the end to turn the "Heads of Agreement" status into a formal Sales and Purchase agreement . At this stage they (the Lawyers) will be trying to identify "surprises" and introduce warrants where necessary to protect their clients.
They don't quite go into a locked room and not come out until all is sorted but they burn the midnight oil until the job is done.
