I suspect Professor Whitty - and other scientists in the public eye - will remain cautious for the forseeable future. The public are waiting for the green light to 'rip the pants' out of lockdown....there must be lots of pent up demand, which should provide optimism for a significant bounce in economic activity. The problem is that we don't really know if we have the virus beaten with the vaccination programme and it could easily mutate into something that surprises us. It is a fine line when to unlock and by what amount. But we have to get back to some sort of normal....I need a haircut!!

NSS22, the oil price at over $60 is 'probably' OK....isn't it the lack of global demand that is the problem (for SHell)?!
If the worldwide vaccine rollout is successful and it allows economies to unlock (big IF's) then demand for oil should improve....along with oil company profits.
However The Boris virus broadcast last evening mentioned Chile....where they have a large vaccination programme but also increasing infection rates. Prof Whitty didn't know why. Could be a sign that our faith in vaccinating to enable unlocking isn't flawed.

Strange how a 10 second decision in choosing a moniker can come back to haunt you!!

Perhaps it explains why companies spend large sums of money rebranding or coming up with a name for a new product.

Yep, utter rubbish. Not heard anyone say you couldn't get coronavirus again....unless it was Donald (but he is ancient history now).
There were recorded cases of people who have been infected twice but they were quite rare. The long term antibody protection from having caught it the first time is still 'probably' uncertain (only had the virus for just over a year). And there are the new variants....the scientists - who are presumably the 'they' - have always known that the virus can mutate (it is what viruses do), and why we will 'probably' need a top up jab in the Autumn.
So Char333 please do stop writing rubbish just because it makes you feel good.

Beg to differ. Buying shares is the easy part....selling them is the tricky part.
I doubt anybody finds it any other way.....so just because one finds buying easier than selling isn't a reason for giving up investing.
Call it philosophy or mindset but I bet that 'day traders' have the same anxiety when selling shares as the likes of Warren Buffet, just they 'probably' rationalise their decisions differently. FOMO is a powerful thing!!

Still hoping that they will pay the 6.0p per share dividend that was 'delayed' due to Coronavirus.

BBC reports that it is 'finally free'.

It could be that the end of the ship is hooked on an outcrop of rock....if that is trhe case then it may be harder to remove than at first hoped.
Lightening the load (removal of containers) is not an easy thing to doand would take time.

They will 'probably' try to clear as much sand/mud using dredging & high pressure water jets before giving one almighty pull at high tide with as many tugs as they can.

That sounds like the conditions for what could be a serious correction.

'Apparently' a US hedge fund went belly up on Friday....a mysterious seller of 'cheap' shares has been identified. Big question is will this cause a mass exit for the door when the US markets open.

A slightly confusing picture from the BBC:
"A huge container ship that has been stuck across the Suez Canal for almost a week has reportedly been freed....has been straightened and released from the shoreline, officials said....Video appeared to show the ship floating, but its owner later told AFP that it had only been "turned"....Maritime services company Inchcape earlier said that the vessel had been freed from the shoreline....The container ship's course had been corrected by 80%, the Suez Canal Authority went on to explain. It added that efforts to fully refloat it had begun."

I'm not sure what 'released from the shoreline' and 'fully refloat' mean. But it does look like it has been 'effectively' unstuck!!....unless something goes horribly wrong. I would have thought they 'only' have to dredge around it to make sure there is clear water and then tow it to a holding area. Tidy up and then traffic can flow.

I suspect the Egyptians won't mind if it takes longer than expected. It will demonstrate the importance of the canal to world trade and allow them to increase usage fees without argument.

30m movement makes more sense. As you say, 30 degrees for a 400m vessel seems too much.

30 degrees does sound like a sizeable movement and give 'hope' that it is coming free.

From the same BBC article: "General Osama Rabie, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority, said that water had started running underneath the vessel. "We expect that at any time the ship could slide and move from the spot it is in," he told a press conference."

But I don't necessarily believe what people say in news conferences.

It is interesting to hear more detailed information about the cause of the incident. Initial reporting seemed to suggest an electrical problem caused loss of power on ship. But as ever things are always more complicated.
Yesterday the tugboats 'apparently' had some success, rotating the ship by 30 degrees. Another attempt on SUnday evening with ever more tugboats apparently. After that it looks like they will start lightening the ship, which could be the start of a fairly long & complicated process.

The tanker could be released on high tide.
