Cum-cum & Cum-ex sounds more like a pawn(sic) movie. The governments will want their money back....let us hope BARC weren't too involved but 'probably' up to their neck (as usual)!!

But there are obvious tensions in a company that wants to maximise profits from fossil fuels whilst also maximising profits from green technologies, the two objectives aren't necessarily compatible....and with one set of senior management it may lead to conflicting goals. Perhaps they need to split the company into two independent bits - with two management teams - one for fossil fuels and other for low carbon energy.
Today we discover that meat & oil producing countries have been asking the UN to water down their climate report recomendations. A company that is 100% behind green energy would be doing the opposite to support their investment strategy.....I wonder who Shell are supporting, the scientists or Australia/Saudi Arabia?

Reading the article on the BBC I knew that Barclays would be involved somewhere:

The question is what you mean by leading light?!....I suspect Shell will be dragged into greener technologies but their DNA is fossil fuels. People will ask, can you continue to extract oil whilst claiming to be climate friendly?...the answer is obviously no.
The real question is whether companies like Shell will be seen as dinosaurs and can they avoid extinction.

Spending a little bit of their cash pile...it must be difficult to find companies to buy at a reasonable price. This isn't a game changing deal like Unruly was (IMO).

I suspect a lot of people - whether private investors or analysts - would say that £21 is a distinct possibility. I suspect a lot of them would anticipate it next year....but given the recent momentum in the SP it could be sooner.
But these are unusual times!!

PS I love it when people make bold catagorical statements that are so outrageous that you wonder if they have a screw loose...a hostage to fortune or just playing a ****ty game?! Personally I like to add caveats, almost all the time, without invariance...unless of course I don't!

No....even with a decimal point!

It reads like CNG supply their gas to the retail suppliers using hedged contracts...and if so must be losing an absolute fortune. With gas usage only going to increase in next 6 months it looks like CNG are trying to exit the market before the winter. If they have contracts to suppy hedged gas then they might not be able to just walk away from them....compensation may be required and lawyers involved I suspect. Glencore - even if a minority backer - may be liable for some of any potential compensation.
I was wondering who the hedging suppliers are and how they are staying in business. Ultimately this is going to cost billions short term but once the hedged contracts end any new contracts will or may lock gas users into very expensive hedged contracts. So perhaps short term pain followed by long term gain. But next 6 months could be very painful.

ALthough not so long ago the SP was approaching £3 and we were 'probably' thinking £5 was to follow and dreaming of £10. At some point investors will hopefully start to take Altyn seriously again and the SP will be £13.99 or more. I'm not sure what the trigger point will be.

Freeposter, I feel a bit like Del Boy, saying "Next year we'll be millionaires!". Of course you are right, BARC has been a constant disappointment for over 10 years. Management promising the earth and failing miserably. The end of PPI compensation was supposed to herald a turning point but Coronavirus arrived. Perhaps BARC will never be what it once was but I'm still hoping they have better times ahead.

Freeposter, 2019 was heading towards a 'record' dividend payout - in recent history - until the pandemic landed. If we can get back up to +6.5p for the year then the SP should also head higher.
Interest rates are now forecast to rise....albeit 0.5% base rate next year is still pretty low IMO.

Governments will have to start spending huge sums of money on the green agenda over the next couple of decades. A strong banking sector will be needed to finance those projects. Hopefully BARC can stay out of court long enough to make some money...and pass a bit onto shareholders.

Debt versus equity!...IF they could find an equity investor then I guess that would be OK. As you say the controlling family is probably a negative for some investors but I suspect they will always have over 50% regardless.

9,500 oz last quarter is 'probably' a bridge too far!!....but not impossible (assuming they identify & resolve the bottleneck).

Freeposter, the question 'posed' was whether quarterly dividends are 'better' than half yearly dividends?
As I think I suggested - and reaffirmed possibly by you - the amount of the total dividend is 'probably' more important than the frequency of the payments.

Spike, I think you have analysed things quite nicely. There seems to be some sort of bottleneck with the processing plant that needs addressing and/or explaining. Yet again they mined more than they processed and they already have approx 100,000 tonnes of unprocessed ore piled up 'somewhere'.
They are making some good sounds but not all the instruments in the band are playing the same tune. Hopefully only minor 'tweaks' are required but we might have to wait to the further investment to unblock the as yet unspecified bottleneck.
But overall a good update....hard to see why the market isn't taking notice! Perhaps the additional investment will also answer a question mark over ALtyn & make the company more attractive to fund managers & the like.

Looking at the dividend payouts:

2018--> Interim= 2.50; final=4.0
2015-->q1=1.0; q2=1.0; q3=1.0; q4=3.5

Conclusion: It isn't necessarily the frequency of the dividend that counts but the total amount paid...surely?! I suppose income seekers would prefer more regular payments.
