PS The youtube guy also said that some people are installing air heatpumps in unsuitable houses - missold probably - and ripping them out to re-install a gas boiler when the heat pump fails to keep the house warm....and they ain't cheap to install.
I can see a massive misselling scandal on the horizon....probably not helped by the government advice in its mad dash for carbon neutrality.
Personally I think wait for green hydrogen boilers.

Jim, you are correct....I didn't differentiate when I should have. The youtube guy did briefly discuss ground heat pumps but quickly discounted them for his application because it would require digging up his whole garden and installing miles of pipes. So he was referring to air heat pumps when he was saying they were noisy. Not all UK homes have a garden big enough for Ground heat pumps...especially new builds. So the only heat pump solution (including flats btw) for 'most' people is air...which are noisy apparently....noisier than one would expect/hope. And a potential shock to any close by neighbours when you have one installed.

To be fair I don't expect they are noisier than air conditioning units....and those are ubiquitous in Southern USA. Maybe something we will have to learn to live with...for the sake of the planet!!

That would be a bold move....given the current state of the gas market if they wait they might be able to get Centrica assets out of administration for peanuts. Centrica & other gas suppliers must be hurting!

The charts only seem to go back 10 years. In that period the price peaked at just a smidgen over £3 (february & may 2013).
I expect to get anywhere near £6 one would have to look back before the 2008 financial crisis....and the banking landscape is totally different from back then.
One also has to look at market capitalisation....I suspect a lot of shares have been issued over the last 15 years. So BARC current mkt cap may not be far off what it was when the SP was at or near £6 (it might even be higher).
At the moment it is hard to see BARC at £6. Something spectacular would be needed to take it there.

I believe in the UK we are fairly reliant on gas for home heating....so I'm not sure there is much switching to do. But that creates a problem when large numbers of people become reliant on something that becomes significantly more expensive, or is produced by regimes such as Putin's Russia. It also applies to renewables - wind farms that don't work when the wind don't blow or dark winters without the sun for solar.
There is no simple solution....which creates opportunities for companies like Shell.

I don't wish to start a debate but I don't know if that is entirely accurate.

I believe they are trialling a 5-10% hydroen/gas mix in one small area of the country...I didn't know it was rolled out nationwide.
I'm not sure if there is a bolier on the market that is adaptable for both gas & full hydrogen use (being developped). Probably when they are, such boilers may need a technician to visit to switch to hydrogen use....presumably things like jets will need changing.
I was told by a neighbour - always a dodgy thing to believe (almost as bad as here) - that the gas delivery pipes cannot handle pure hydrogen. If that is the case then an expensive network of hydrogen pipes would be needed. Huge investment.
We produce most of current hydrogen from methane & natural gas (blue hydrogen)...which isn't 'good' for the planet. Green hydrogen isn't currently feasible for large scale use in UK heating systems...as far as I know.
It is quite a complicated subject, with lots of misinformation. Even the 'experts' aren't very good at explaining the current status of hydrogen production and useage (IMO). So if anyone has a handle on this then please enlighten us.

Nomad, I suspect you are probably correct in your analysis. The green revolution isn't going to be that green...greenish perhaps. But unless future generations develop gills then 'civilisation' needs to find ways to cool the planet. Some form of carbon capture (actually CO2) and storage is something that companies like Shell could research & develop and could be highly lucrative.
Watched a youtube video on a guy who was discussing the various heating options in UK...combi gas bolier, ground & air heat pumps...he went for the combi boiler in the end. Heat pumps just ain't gonna be a mass solution to UK heating needs. Also very noisy apparently!!
Hydrogen perhaps in the future...but hydrogen production at the moment just aint green enough (as we know).

The 'problem' doesn't end there....Boris is behaving like a teenager with a new credit card....life is wonderful, buying presents for everyone because all you do is hand over a bit of plastic and people give you stuff...until the bill arrives on the doormat and reality strikes. People don't seem to realise how much we have spent...and are still spending. I suppose we are in denial.

What would Barclays be without a lawsuit or two in the pipeline. Be like champagne without the bubbles. Got to keep the lawyers busy!!

The above strikes me as rather odd. 'Estimate of fair value' is rather a silly metric (IMO). Clearly each analyst has their own 'estimate of fair value' (or equivalent) but it has almost no meaning. It's like asking 5 estate agents to value your house and choosing the one that values it the highest....it has little bearing on what the house sells for.
The second metric - 'earnings growth of 328%' - is just plain daft given the year we have just had....it is just the inevitable bounce back after lockdown.

I have yet to find an energy supplier that isn't excellent....or at least adequate. To be honest that is all I want from an energy supplier adequacy. As long as the gas flows to my house via the pipes and the elastic trickey comes down the wires then I am (easily) satisfied. Excellence is 'almost' irrelevant. Even IF the eletric stops delivering electrons it isn't my energy company that actually fixes the problem...they just pick up a phone and call the 'big boys'.
So donald duck or mickey mouse could deliver my energy and I am sure they would be excellent....not sure about Pluto though!!
