I always thought it was a reference to India & the time of the Raj but it seems the term is of American origin and refers to North American Indians. Learn something every day.

Someone is making money. Yesterday the spread was 5p, today it is 12p.

Reminds me of the days when ALTN was a 'penny' share (pre-consoldation) when the spread was extortionate.

The dividend payment in pence is a bit more than I had guesstimated. Every little helps.

There is always some debate about when constitutes an 'Indian Summer' (amongst weather people)....a warm September is too early for sure.

There is a sizeable profit but there also seem to be lots more ways to spend that money....consultants, equipment, mine upgrades, new highly paid staff. Borrowing is high and they will be looking for more. Cash in the bank is falling despite the record profits. Hopefully at some point there will be a little bit left for shareholders but it doesn't look that way at the moment...not for many years.

If price of gold falls then things will rapidly look less rosy. They really need to be saving every penny to invest in the new production plant(s) & current plant upgrade. Just like a teenager with a new credit card there are so many wonderful things to buy.

But it is good to see grade increase....hopefully it will continue to rise.

Stuart, yep I happened across the 'dividendmax' website....which confused me no end. At top of page it has 6c dividend payable on 21st sept, but lower down the page it has an additional payment of a 'special' 4c also on 21st sept.
And from the answers to my original post some other people are also confused.

But to me it looks like 10c on 21st sept (4+6c)

PS I use hargreaves lansdown for dividend information and so far they have been super reliable...apart from GLEN.

Either is did work or it didn't (Chinese one child policy). What has short sightedness got to do with statistical fact?
The moral and economic arguments are entirely different from whether something worked or it didn't IMO.

PS I thought China cancelled the policy because they need the labour and they were 'probably' struggling to enforce it with a richer & educated population.

I'm a little confused. I cannot find a single website that has the same information on how much the GLEN dividend will be.
I understood the interim dividend was 6c (payable on 21st sept) but in addition there was to be a special 4c dividend, making total payable on 21st sept of 10c. Has that changed? or did I misunderstand!

I find reading the synopsis of the authors career as interesting as anything:

Ed, presumably it is about spreading risk....or not putting all your eggs in one basket. If cheap money is available then the risk can be spread further. But when the cost of money increases then the company has to take more of the risk of failure. The economics of oil will get more difficult in the coming years (IMO)...indeed one can see it happening now. Perhaps gas production - being slightly greener - is another matter. But it is just a stop gap (IMO).

Mr Wolfy, a good reflection of the world as it is, not as we want it to be. Having some Strang(e) guy telling us what we want to happen ain't gonna make it happen. I like your confidence in Investment Banking...if it was so. Perhaps Barclays will rise like a Phoenix....perhaps!!

I suspect the days of 'sexy' oil are coming to an end....the American V8 will soon be a dinosaur. That doesn't mean that there aren't several decades (at least) of decent profits....but it just isn't 'sexy' anymore. The prospectors are 'probably' moving from black gold to green gold.
But don't forget tobacco....which is no longer 'sexy' but is still lucrative. Just like Bond no longer smokes cigarettes I expect he will be all electric one day.....stopping to fast charge mid chase!!

It's a Strang(e) world we live in when a self-professed 'top secret' project leader has a target range of 240p to 156p (and below)....with an unexplained 'attraction' even higher!! (presumably than 240p?!).

PS I was pointing out that LGEN has intrinsic value. So if one collects 10 years of compounded dividends at circa 5-7% AND at the end LGEN runs into trouble (god forbid) the intrinsic value of at least some of the business could make up at least some of the shortfall allowing one to see a large % of your initial investment....although obviously inflation would have to be factored in.

I guess when LGEN collapses there will be buyers for at least some parts of the business....although administrator fees & other people get paid out first (HM treasury) of course. Shareholders may get a token payment I suppose.
