good news US opening up for UK. Anyone know if they will be using PCR or LFT for their testing? Hopefully it will be PCR. If so that should be a booster for Ygen.

Frankie, the experts are piping up now. I won't be surprised if the decision is reversed by the end of Oct. To rely on lft is total madness imo.

it's not my definition, your definition or Bill Gates for that matter. It's what is universally known by the 'experts' and it most certainly is not lft. When the likes of the NHS adopt lft as their gold standard then that's when it will be confirmed, not by anyone here.
I very much think lft has it's place and if it could sequence too, then it would be unstoppable, until then?

PCR and lamp testing is going nowhere. The govt are buying auto equipment to make upto 500k tests a day going forward. Sequencing is also increasing fourfold. The shift to lft for travel is all about the cost, nothing else. A decision which is set to bite them in the arris and likely be reversed imo.

There is still a bit of business for Pcr. All non vaxxed will need a day 2/8 and many other countries still want a pcr before entry. How long before the LFT experiment goes t its up and pcr is back?
They cannot get rid of pcr as it's needed to track the variants. and Ygen should be doing well there too.

LFT will 'find' only 25% according to govt figures. Hmmm! yes it does seem it is to keep the travel industry happy. The cost of using pcr for travel will seem a pittance when a variant breaks out that the current vaccines can't deal with. More travel lockdowns to come maybe, now that will work wonders for the travel industry won't it?

London. I am not sure they are in stores. Not the handful I phoned up anyway. There is some confusion whether there is or not even though the Boots web stock counter say all stores have stocks, but in reality they haven't.
What I don't understand is if they are scrapping pcr testing why are they going on about the problem with rip off suppliers and the like. Surely it won't matter soon?

If PCR tests are scrapped, which is being reported then who knows? There will still be a small need for PCR but won't be much to share around some 400+ suppliers.

mala, increase to sequencing in the coming months. Should help to fill the travel shortfall.? Looking like double jabbed won't need pcr. Not sure why they are reporting about test suppliers if they are scrapping the tests. I suppose there will still be some that need them.

Boots act as the agent only. It is up to MHC /Others to deal with refunds etc.

you will not keep borders safe using Lft..period! Govt say 'as soon as they can' trouble is they can't if they want to keep sequencing for variants, which is of utmost importance.

tbh, I am not sure if they could cope with travel testing levels as they currently are and £34m T&T contracts all at once? I feel confident that whatever happens with any lack of travel pcr testing there will be plenty of other govt work to fill the lab. If ever they got near govt minimum capacity of 10k tests a day then there would probably be a problem imo. On top of all that they have record numbers of Nipt tests going through.. Could be worse Rodney!!
