Maket hasn’t exactly gone mad for the Vodafone / liberty deal ?

FT reports Gav and co are trying to reconnect with investors. I’m not sure divi cut will do that unless there’s a very good case for spending it elsewhere. My guess is the FTTP argument isn’t settled yet.

It’s a dilemma. I’m not playing the market like that personally, I’ve chosen the long game, so I’m more interested in the share price couple of years out from here. Of course you could sell & the price might go up. Having said that I have a further investment (last one) ready to go. I’ve chosen to hold that back until after the results, so obviously I think the SP is likely to lower in the short term. For me the share price is about company value, £20bln seems too low.

Next couple of days will tell. I always thought it was an error on Gavs part to state BT would carry on supporting the Dividend, left him no room for manoeuvre. Reducing divident could be seen as a prudent thing to do, but might look like Gavin is not in control of events. I have to say it looks like BT are on a coordinated campaign to woe investor confidence back, based on this my guess is dividend will be maintained, otherwise it would undo everything else they are trying to do. In my view dividend reduction this time round might indicate bad.

Hey Pete, I agree. I think I’ve said it before I wanted to see BT spear head a really good easy to use IP TV product, easily accessible from any where any device. Bit like SKY pioneered early days PVR use. Sometimes it feels like the tv side has run out of ideas & other companies are rapidly starting to invade this product space.

Hey Pete, I still think Gavin has been quite brave to move BT into tv and back to mobile. I still think this was the right thing to do. My frustration is the TV service feels like it needs more commitment, the sport channel is excellent for football

On a different note what does everyone think about the impending Vodafone and liberty global tie up, which will I’m sure result in Vodafone and virgin media being combined?

The market is making the results in May the most important for a while, with contractions. So many expectations around network investment, dividends, deficit plans and re-structures!!!! I certainly hope Gav has the answers and some better news hidden away.

That’s good news, that finally puts it to bed. I’m sorry for the guys who can’t continue their DB pension to the end of their career.

Hey Zib, looking at those costs for 50m? Who is paying that ? Hmmm, I certainly wouldn’t upgrade if those are the costs. Does / would BT charge hundreds of pounds to connect up like that ? I have friends with Virgin, they get very fast B.B. but I’m pretty sure they have not paid that much for the privilege. I try really hard to look with a balanced eye for all this & I have to say I come down on BT’s side of the argument, if indeed their position is they don’t think there’s a demand for faster B.B. out there. I can see fibre could help fix some of the rural issues But as always this leaves BT in a tricky position, BT can’t focus their fibre efforts to improve rural B.B. whilst other make hay on the populated areas. To me this is part of what a regulator should be doing. If they want rural areas fixed with fibre then they should be holding back other providers so they can’t take advantage (if that makes sense). The. Alternative will be rural areas still languish and areas who already have fast B.B. get upgraded to fibre.... who probably won’t pay a premium because they have what they need.

Hey bowler, I don’t know why. Maybe it’s because if you ask people if they want faster B.B. they will say yes especially after the unnecessary campaigning by others, but when it comes to paying for it who knows? I think most people have been convinced they need fibre even though for most they wouldn’t be able to tell the difference

Hey Pete, totally agree. BT has not covered itself in glory through 2017. Scandals, bad practice, H&S fines. In so many ways it does look like the Wild West & listening to the guys on this page, so much of this could be down to a scary culture driven by methods to scare off experience and expertise. Much of this scsres me as an investor. Sometimes it sounds like the culture won’t allow for staff to call these risks out for a fair hearing
