Hi Blue, I think I was saying OR is a cash cow because of the money it generates from its customers serving their services. The network is an asset that belongs to BT plc. This in itself does not generate any cash for OR apart from a proportion of rental retail customers pay. OR then earns cash every time a retail business needs a network function completed on their behalf. When I said the old copper access networks might be a liability for BT I mean they are the focus for negative sentiment & that they are very costly, likely to become more costly and expensive and difficult to replace. They are also the may focus for Ofcom to bash BT in every way. As a business without the BT baggage, OR could be put to work drawing investment from all operators as well as the current cash cow as it continues to maintain the legacy stuff

Hey Pete, OR don’t own the networks they maintain on behalf of BT plc. The network infrastructure may well be part of the negotiations with BT plc, but that’s a different matter all together. Reasons why an infrastructure investment company might want to buy Open reach as a business might be to do with its £1.5bln contribution to BT. It’s quite a nice cash cow & potentially a company that’s not working in BT plc’s interests might be able to make much more. If you consider Openreach as the only organisation capable of building out a national network, there are opportunities to earn money during the build and then renting it out afterwards (not necessarily on top of the existing copper). IMO the legacy network BT plc is rapidly becoming a liability. If an independent OR built a new national network, BT would not only get money from the sale, but might be able to recover the copper in 20 years or so. I thought this was a crazy proposition initially but more I think about it, it could actually work. I also think that’s the end of heavy regulation for BT plc.

Some people just don’t know what they are talking about unless Farage tells them what to think. Here’s the detail In March 2017, after various negotiations and demands with Ofcom, BT plc agreed to divest Openreach's staff and non-network assets into a legally separate company, Openreach Limited. However, the network assets would still be owned by BT plc to ensure the longevity of leases and covenants, and Openreach Limited would still be wholly owned by BT plc's parent holding company, BT Group plc. Openreach does not own the network infrastructure, it owns the people and the right to maintain it on behalf of BT Plc.

I don’t think Openreach is getting sold any time soon, GS maybe. I’m really not convinced by this.

I agree Pete, can’t deny the workforce their pension arrangements whilst in the same year you take a £299,000 pension contribution & you certainly can’t destroy market value and get paid a £1.3m bonus ?..... WTF?

Has anyone else ordered BT plus yet? (Pretty embarrassing to be answering my own post). As a long term holder I thought it was only decent to sign up straight away!!!!

Plans have been released today already. Prices seem to range from mid 50’s to 80 pounds per month. Obviously been lots of work behind the scenes to release it so quickly. Even I can access the lower end products and speed guarantees.

I agree that DT may well move on BT. Yes they have declared an interest both historic and recently. I think what makes it more likely is DT failure to spend money in America. That failure may leave them with money to spend

Faulty, nothing to do with this thread? Rest of us have moved on. I’m not sure you can read, we’ve established corruption is bribery based, whereas you were describing examples of individual fraud. We also established ofcom are not regulating price on fibre broardband. If you think any of that is “made up” you are uninformed or had one too many in the pub lunch time or both.

V. Good. BT dig should absolutely overlay other fibre rollouts. This will put pressure on Ofcom who want national rollout, it reinforces its a competition not co-operation, BT get a fair go at high density population and finally in 10 years there will be more network competition therefore less regulation.

We can’t agree because we need a definition Corruption is Bribery based, I think the examples you give are closer to fraud CORRUPTION = dishonest or fraudulent conduct by those in power, typically involving bribery. FRAUD = wrongful or criminal deception intended to result in financial or personal gain.

Smasher if we take out the hysterical daily mail coverage (who then kept quiet about their favourite mps) the real press clearly reported most MPs were actually able to claim for some of the things most of us would consider silly. So actually very few actually broke their expenses rules. Those that went too far were dealt with. However this is ridiculous arguing over thousands of dodgy expenses claims and then labelling it governmental wide spread damaging corruption. The system worked, people involved held to account several even jailed. Back on message I’m sure sky and others make their case to ofcom but this isn’t necessarily corruption. If you are convinced report and let us know how it goes

stgam02 no sorry. Greed, incompetence, stupidity all yes but wide scale deep and dangerous corruption, no sorry. If you are so convinced we have laws and we have organisations you can report it to. We even have a free press to hold corruption, true corruption to account. Please prove he wrong. I’m not saying you won’t find any, I’m saying it will be ridiculously low level on the corruption meter
