The only thing that Will claim Gavins job will be a reduction of dividends during the next couple of years. Other than that, he has the re-org job. Therefore reduction of dividends will herald his departure. I can’t see this happening any time soon.

Can anyone explain what happens from a share holder perspective if BT sell Global Services? Share price, umber of shares do we then have shares in the new owning company? How does this all work?..... thanks

H-hi. That’s not what I said was it? I said why would google or it’s ilk who run over the top services want to saddle themselves with network ownership and the costs and hassle that goes with it. Primarily they get to use someone else’s network for virtually free & the good bit is the end user pays for it.

This goes back to our “network is king” discussions. I think I have made my views clear on this subject where I feel this dogma is rapidly coming to an end. Why on earth would these companies you are talking about who deliver over the top services want to saddle themselves with all the costs and responsibilities of network ownership .... never gonna happen in my view. Network owners are struggled by to make money, that’s because these services use more and more network whilst these companies shoulder a fraction of the cost. Network companies needed to charge per query or per film conveyance to be in on the game, but that ship has long sailed

Hey Tim, BT guys will know more but for me I don’t trust that article. The language used doesn’t sound right to me. I can’t for a minute think a name change relieves BT from its pension obligations but I do believe DT might be interested in BT in a couple of years at this price. I also believe the pension deficit can be reduced in other ways. Life expentency calculations can have a dramatic effect, Tesco halved their deficit with this. Also a change from RPI to CPI based increases will help & finally at some point interest rate increases will reduce it further. I expect BT leaders to have a good go at these over the coming years. For me these actions / options are the “risk” / “reward” calculation for this share. I.e. I can see part of the problem and I can see part of the solution. Admittedly I was surprised when BT lost the RPI/CPI court battle but reassured they have started an appeal.

Haha maybe. If you have had a few beers don’t let your finger linger too long over the buy order button, could be costly, unless of course you fancy looking for nearly 7% dividends and see what happens?

Hey Pete, no of course not. I’m guessing Zib is pointing out the madness of TT raising couple of hundred million pounds and getting favourable press for rolling out FTTP. I think this selected urban areas, the £9bln comment probably reflects how much they would actually need to invest. I think they worked with sky and a fibre company to fibre up (I think ) York couple of years ago for a pilot?

Hi Fleccy, it’s not you. You are just explaining your investment strategy, you’re not telling people what they should do or that they are stupid for doing it

Way too many people on here telling people how to invest their hard earned. As I’ve said before it’s really no one else’s business what investment strategy another prefers. I find it hilarious having some small idea of the size of some peoples investment and the obvious success they have achieved following a strategy smaller minds and smaller investors love to criticise. I find tiresome. I think many people on here only paid a few pence for the shares they have. & what they choose to do with them is fine by me.

If it’s the same video, I thought Gavin looked like a rabbit caught in headlights. It didn’t inspire confidence, not for me any way.

I kind of think the strategy from the BT board is obvious. They know there’s a couple of years (at least) where trading and investment conditions will not be good. So they are committing to the high yield dividend to encourage investors to wait it out. To undo this arrangement would be commercial suicide. The only question is..... is this part of a well worked out strategy that the board have carefully considered or is this a knee jerk desperate attempt?
