Given the difficulty in the valuation of IP, you could be right.
IP valuation can be massively over or under. All dependant on the sentiment of the market.
All eyes of the world are now looking at the current virus. The sentiment here has the potential to swing widely. Today’s price rise will likely gather further attention and fuel the growth further.
No knowing where people’s emotions and exuberance will drive this price.
I forecast the share price reaching 18p in the run up to the results. 26p upon news of biological pathogen detection sales (not included in any analyst forecasts). Then 35p following Kromeks appearance in Investors Chronicle Small cap bargain shares edition
£1.5bn would clearly be a wise investment given the current budgets for monitoring viruses. Outside of governments I see some demand from large corporations based in litigiousness countries. I’m aware that Netflix currently test employees on set with pcr tests every 3days at great expense. This Covid detector would be cheaper and more accurate in that scenario. I’m looking forward to the 18th jan intern results.
If there is positive news on the covid detectors and the share price doesn’t rise (as happened with the last ‘upto’ £17m contract). I have a very high degree of certainty Kromek will appear in Simon Thompson’s 2022 Bargain Shares in early feb, given its a repeated ‘strong buy’ and the case for investment would have improved. It’s common for shares on this list to increase by 10-40% on the day of publication.
The cost was $16trillion to the us economy according to congress in this article. An interesting read. Insightful into the inevitable conclusions of many governments around the world.
Looking forward to the interim results on Jan 18th. A few weeks before ST publishes his Bargain Shares edition. I’ve a good feeling Kromek will be included having been a repeated strong buy and on the cusp of many exciting advancements

The price point of the covid detector is £20k, with a 52% margin according the the house brokers. The governmental sales of the detector are the most interesting. As the ceo stated in an interview £1.5bn could network the country.
The wide spectrum biological pathogen detector was stated by the CFO at the AGM questions and answers as being ready by the end of the financial year. I emailed a few questions and that was the answer Paul gave to that question. The wide spectrum detector is already on their website alongside the covid specific detector. See link below, it’s named the Kapscan-AS. How this all links in with the DARPA 28month project I am unsure. However the only places these detectors have been seen is within military trade shows such as the dsei in excel london, which indicates to me there may be a reluctance of DARPA to allow Kromek too divulge too much information, given its potential use as a defence to biological weapons of adversaries I wouldn’t be surprised if they wanted to keep the details secret - which might be why information is so patchy. DARPA being the abbreviation for Defence Advanced Research Projects Agency.

Interesting to see Kromek were in talks with the Dubai authorities in that article. Even more interesting last Wednesday at congress in the US was the request for z$10bn per year for 10years to detect and deal with future biological threats. How many more governments around the world will be taking the same view? If any of Kromeks IP is half useful this will be an outrageous bargain. Remember that Kromek were ranked 4th in the U.K. ip100 list last year - the year they were developing the biological pathogen detector...
The cfo said at the AGM that the wide spectrum detector will be released by the end of the financial year. Given the ceo was awarded an honorary fellowship by the Institute of Physics a few weeks back for “ scientific advances of immeasurable significance, and commitment to the global advancement of security and our health.’
Also given the endorsement of biological warfare specialist and Cambridge University fellow Hamish de Breton Gordon. A few weeks ago in an article -search Google- it’s seems Kromek have pulled off what we’ve all been hoping for. https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.thenationalnews.com/world/uk-news/2021/12/04/virus-detecting-machine-could-prove-to-be-pandemic-game-changer/%3foutputType=amp
I always find opposing views the most interesting. Would be a pretty useless forum of no value, if it were an echo chamber for pro or anti views. Promethium comments all seemed pretty reasonable, not sure why you’d call him such names just because he has opposing views?
It’s the best endorsement to date that the biological pathogen detector works -“scientific advances of immeasurable significance, and commitment to the global advancement of security and our health.”
I don’t think the Institute of Physics would make such a comment without knowledge the detector works...
Kromek CEO awarded Honorary Fellowship
30/11/2021
Dr Arnab Basu, the chief executive of Sedgefield-based Kromek Group plc has been honoured with the highest accolade bestowed by the Institute of Physics (IOP), an honorary fellowship.
The IOP is the professional body and learned society for physics in the UK and Ireland. The honorary fellowship is the highest accolade it offers, to reflect an individual’s exceptional services to physics.
Dr Basu has been recognised by the IOP for: ‘outstanding and ongoing contributions to business in the field of physics-based technological innovation, scientific advances of immeasurable significance, and commitment to the global advancement of security and our health.’
As founding chief executive of university spin-out, Kromek, Dr Basu has grown the company into a global market, exporting products to more than 40 countries, and employing in excess of 150 people, including at sites in Pennsylvania and California.
Kromek’s central aim is to deliver detection capabilities which make the world safer and healthier. Its developments cover sectors including radiation and nuclear detection for deployment in civil and defensive environments, and medical imaging for the early diagnosis of life-shortening or limiting conditions such as cancers and osteoporosis. Most recently, Kromek has diversified into biosecurity, developing the world’s first airborne covid-19 detection machine, as well as a broad-spectrum device which could be used to build national or global early warning system for pathogens, emergence and spread.
Dr Arnab Basu MBE DL, said: “It is tremendous honour to receive this prestigious recognition from the Institute of Physics and a testament to the exceptional dedication and ingenuity of my team at Kromek. We are all immensely proud of the work we do and the things we have achieved in delivering innovation to make the world safer and in helping people to live longer, healthier lives.”
People seem to watch the Kromek with a great deal of interest and a greater deal of mistrust.
There is an illogically stampede mentality to the share price going both down and up.
People clearly see the potential by looking at the recent sale of Redlan to Kodak and also by looking at the IP and forthcoming technologies. However they don’t trust Kromek.
I can see further unpredictability here. I wouldn’t be surprised if it ended the year at 5p or 50p. Anything can happen here
I agree with your analysis Guy, Kromek has all the ingredients of a company about to recover and have a turnaround in the sP. Kromek has been so battered by shareholders that even when positive news is announced and they are set to beat this year’s forecasts with exciting new products about to be released, the share price takes a fresh battering. It’s as if some holders think it’s inconceivable that Kromek can pull off any success, the bar is now so low for Kromek that the share price will start reacting drastically when proof of positive progress is announced.
What’s everyone’s guess when the detector will be released?
IC said expect commercialisation of the covid specific detector by the end of the year.
The CFO of Kromek said at the AGM questions (I think from memory) to expect the full spectrum detector to be released by April, at the end of the financial year.
Given Kromek already said the detector works marvellously and just needed tweaking for clients different location settings I would have thought it would be released by now.
No wonder the share price is falling when SOME guidance given isn’t materialising. Whilst according to SOME other guidance given everything is still on track
as we have not yet past the original guidance regarding the release date.
All very irritating, my guess is early December for the covid specific release date. Hopefully governments they were reportedly in “serious talks with” will have any hesitancy removed by the rising covid rates and Kromek are currently mopping up as many orders as they can before they release an RNS? Or is it more likely Father Christmas comes down my chimney than Kromek release this detector by Christmas?
I’d wait till news of the biological pathogen detector is released, then quickly buy before Simon Thompson publishes his guaranteed revised ‘strong buy’ recommendation on his old favourite. This time it’ll have some basis rather than just speculation, and the share price will rocket past previous highs.
They told us they needed that £13m fundraising to create the capacity for the commercialisation for the biological pathogen detector. “Commercialisation by the end of the year” IC said. 6weeks and counting... I wonder if they’ll have the courtesy to give us an updated timescale before the end of the year?
Not a lot of love out there for Kromek at the moment. Pretty surprising to see the latest sell off came following news of a significant order. People seem to have reached the end of their patience with Kromeks endless ‘upto’ promises. Can’t be too long now till there’s an update on the pathogen detector...
I think the shareholders and the CEO of Kromek would be better off if he moved to a more scientific area if Kromek. His recent interview below seems like advice he wishes he could have offered himself... A more experienced management team would not make such errors. Kromek is a kindergarten management school for the scientist CEO to try his hand at business. It’s costing shareholders dearly. If I felt he had conviction about his management and was just going through a rough patch I could be understanding. But since he has only 0.86% equity as FOUNDER and CEO it really is time he moved on.
"What tips would you give to businesses developing commercial services underpinned by physics and requiring innovation?" "Customers and your own people are at the heart of any strategy; understand the market and look after your cash. Commercialisation is a multifaceted process: science and technology play a part, but at the heart of that process are people. Then there is the market. You need to understand whether the market exists for the technology that you’re trying to apply. People often make a mistake when looking for a gap in the market as there are lots of obvious gaps, but the important thing to understand is whether that gap needs to be filled: is there a market for it?"
