I'm no expert and can't verify the accuracy of this, so take from this what you will. Taking data from a short tracking website and assuming Pictet took out the short at the trade high on the day and a current price of 29p. By my calculations they appear to be sitting on a loss of around £1.6 million and seem to be digging themselves in deeper and deeper. This is getting interesting!

My personal opinion is that the shorters have got greedy in this instance. This share dropped to 7p and they didn't close. It's now over 25p and they still haven't closed. Seems pretty stupid to me .... but hey .... what do I know.... I'm just a pawn in this game...

I don't have a lot of knowledge of financial markets or stock trading, however am curious. This share has gone from 14p to 25p in a very short space of time, yet we have seen very little reduction in the shorts on this stock. That's nearly a 100% increase, so surely would make a big loss of profit for a shorter. Why would they not close their position on a rising stock and take their profit, then maybe later short again when they think it'll drop again? Seems strange to me that they are prepared to see their profits evaporate and do nothing about it.

Can't go to war using electric vehicles, tanks, planes, etc..... oil will be needed for a while still....

For all you criticising the board and professing doom, there's a couple of things to remember:

1) Oil shares in general are down. You just have to look at Shell sitting at 1030p, very near it's Covid low.
2) Half year results are being announced next week, so the board won't be just making announcements for the sake of it.
3) The share price has dropped considerably based on no new facts, while oil has gone from $0 to $45. So seems to be manipulation or sentiment driven.
4) This is not a get rich quick scheme, for those who are patient now is the time to top up and I think you will get a great return sometime next year.
5) You can only short something to a point and unless it goes bust you'll need to take your profit and move on. I think we're not far off that point.
6) A positive statement and reaction by the markets next week could see the shorters get badly burnt.

Time will tell how this plays out, but I'm holding and will hopefully be selling for a tidy profit sometime next year. All IMHO of course.

Does anyone know why we often see multiple buys and sells at the exact time for the exact same amount from several MM's?

When this share was racing up from 30 to 40p this share chat was flooded with trolls saying that Tullow was doomed. Now we're in the 26p range not a peep. Be very interesting to see if that starts up again if this share gets over 30p.

Well I wouldn't criticism him just yet ..... he holds over 9 million shares ..... so if this gets to 200p he could make close to £20 million. I think that's a pretty good incentive ..... let's hope he has expensive taste and likes the the finer things in life .... :-)

My knowledge of the stock market is very limited, so forgive my ignorance. From what I can see Tullow has 7.84% of it's shares in disclosed short positions. Now I assume that the short sellers are in it to make a profit, so is there generally a point where they'd close their positions to take their profit i.e. the lowest price they think the share price will get to. If so, surely we'll soon see them let this tick up again till they decide to take it down again. Any thoughts on this?

Bet it gets announced after the market is closed so the big boys can hoover up the cheap shares before opening tomorrow .... or am I just cynical...?

spinng I think you response to that comment gives something away about who you are .....

I'm not an expert but this is my theory or at least what I'm hoping is this..... This share has been manipulated for the last 2 months in tight ranges to the definite benefit of several parties. There is going to be an announcement tomorrow, which I believe will make the price rise and I believe Tullow will survive. So I think this is one last chance for them to drive this down and pick up shares on the cheap to make a killing tomorrow when this starts rocketing...... time will tell!

The market doesn't care if the CEO is the messiah .... they're playing this share like a banjo and making a killing along the way.

Anyone know anything about this?

How often is the data for shorts on this website updated, as I see the following on shorttracker.co.uk which is different to this website. One reduction recently after several increases .... looks like a good sign to me.
