At the end of the day banks aren't there to implement measures that should be governments responsibility, they are simply in the business of making profit in whatever company in whatever country offers that opportunity.

I don't invest to lose money so if a bank showed signs of doing that I would have to withdraw my investments from it.

Aviva hasn't had any significant shorters since early 2015. I guess it's like prodding a rhinoceros and not worth the risk.

Thanks for that. It's all a learning curve for me but WRT SEE it's not a big mistake until I sell at the current price or the company disappears from under my feet! The first is my call; the second isn't, so I am pleased to be reassured.

Conspiracy theory:

What if a company with valuable IP were sold at a discount and the existing mgt got to keep their jobs under the new owner? It has happened before now.

Is it not true that shareholders are in a sense creditors to whom the company is indebted? If so, and the value of the debt can be thus significantly reduced then will the management of said company be happy or unhappy? They will have done their new bosses a favour anyway.

What's to stop it, given that any aces may well be hidden up their sleeves until well after the fait accompli?

I do hope you are right and he succeeds in busting through Aviva's seemingly impenetrable performance barrier (IPB). If he does then my ship will have arrived.

Brokers have their own agenda IMO and GSK doesn't exactly float their boat right now. I do believe there are profits to be had from this stock with careful timing. Defy the brokers!

Yes it is a shame. But this company is good at ditching talent and Mark Wilson's escape to join the board of the world's largest fund manager was almost certainly a show of contempt for Aviva's non-executives.

Others who have left include Patrick Snowball (who was passed over for Andrew Moss of all people) and Tidjane Thiam who left to lead Prudential.

I suspect that the non-execs deliberately avoid candidates who seek to grow the company through any kind of risk-taking and prefer life in the quiet lane. The lack of growth is what you get.

I'd imagine that Briggs felt snubbed by the appointment of Tulloch and saw his future at Aviva as limited. Unlikely to be any more than that.

I see this as a minor buying opportunity and have topped up at 4.23.
