Why 2026/27 Will Be the Turning Point for AFC Energy – The Facts
Anyone who sees AFC Energy as just an "eternal promise" is overlooking the massive operational milestones currently being prepared for 2026 and 2027. Here are the three main reasons why the breakthrough is now imminent:
1. Scaling the S-Series & Commercialization
Until now, AFC has often been in the pilot phase. This is now fundamentally changing:
H-Power S Series: The new 30kW generators are in series production. Over 300 units are expected to be produced by the end of 2028.
Market Entry into the High-Performance Class: With the new 200kW S+ Series generator (developed with ABB e-Mobility), AFC is entering the heavy-duty charging and industrial sectors. This is no longer a toy, but rather a replacement for real diesel generators on large construction sites.
2. The "Game Changer": Ammonia Cracking (Hy-5)
The biggest problem with hydrogen is logistics. AFC has a solution with its Hyamtec brand:
Hy-5 Launch: Starting in 2026, the first containerized ammonia crackers will be delivered. These convert liquid ammonia (easy to transport) directly on-site into high-purity hydrogen.
Joint Venture with ICL: The joint venture with the Industrial Chemicals Group will generate its first revenues in early 2026. From 2027 onward, when green ammonia is imported into Europe in large quantities, AFC will be the "tollbooth operator" for hydrogen with this infrastructure.
3. Financial Turning Point (EBITDA Forecast)
Take a look at the analyst estimates:
While EBITDA for 2024/25 is still strongly negative, analysts predict a massive improvement in the EBITDA margin for 2027 (towards -47% from over -400%).
According to estimates, revenue is expected to increase sharply by 2027/28 once the rental fleets (e.g., through the Speedy Hydrogen Solutions JV) are fully operational.
Conclusion:
2026 will be the year of revenue acceleration through the Hy-5 Crackers, and 2027 will be the year in which economic scalability is demonstrated through favorable ammonia imports. Anyone betting on the "net-zero" transformation of the construction and shipping industries cannot ignore AFC in the next 24 months.
