Indeed good point dumaskullanga, and whilst greentechmedia is clearly skewed towards Lithium-ion technology itself the history of molten metal batteries is not a good one. Wolfman_Jack - if you weren't aware you might wish to know that BMN has an 800 Million Tonne Iron resource (35% Iron) at Mokopane. Initial plans for a 5 Million Tonne pa ROM would have yielded around 1.5 Million tonnes of iron at a cost price of 51 USD/ Tonne without any consideration given for the value of Vanadium that might also be extracted.

This is why Fortune has previously stated that Iron prices would need to go over 100 USD/Tonne for them to consider mining for Iron, but if it does who is to say that BMN will not do that at Mokopane and get Iron and Vanadium in one fell swoop. Seriously you could not make such a great position up.

Loudspeaker - it would be interesting to go back to sept/oct 2017 after the Initial Vanadium bomb went off and prices moved to 50 USD/Kg (per KgV in FeV). At that point the chinese discovered 10,000 tonnes of Vanadium that they had left behind the sofa and the prices dropped back to 35 USD KgV.

"Oh, the Vanadium spike is over" I remember a number of the bedroom buffetts coming here to tell us. Wrong again geniuses - the price subsequently took off almost monotonically to 125 USD/Kg ahead of the (final, delayed by 6-12 months) implementation of the new chinese rebar regulations. Christmas came and the chinese all went on holiday or stopped producing steel and the pollution that goes with it - the Vanadium price fell back to 70 USD/KgV. "Ah the Vanadium Bubble is over" crowed the all-knowing lithium-ion twitterati, but guess what happens next.
