Is it possible to short any spreadbetting companies using their own platforms ?

Those who are proponents of shorting often like to try and seize the high- moral ground by claiming that they are only symmetrising the market, however what they fail to appreciate is that most shorting happens via highly leveraged spreadbetting platforms.

Imagine what share investing would be if you only ever were able to buy shares using a credit card that required immediate reimbursement should a share ever fall by more than 10%. Essentially that would be like having a stop loss imposed on everything you did against your will. Can you imagine how volatile that would make the stock market ?

This is essentially the situation that shorters using spread bet platforms face - it's a constant question of who will run to the door to get out of the party first when the price rise appears.

Dav3J - only slightly - all thermodynamic heat pumps need a source of cold as well as a source of heat to extract higher quality electrical energy. Normally that source of cold is a river or the sea. In the case of Medupi and Kusile the source of cold is not a river because there is none. As a design for a power station it just goes to show the huge lengths you have to go to to stick a coal fired power station in a place where there is no obvious source of cooling.

Turns out there is also no obvious source of fuel for Kusile as the coal mine that they were going to build nearby (unhelpfully called new Largo) has been shelved so now they are having to truck coal hundreds of km to run just one of Kusile's boilers.

You just don't get problems like this with a solar farm. You get a field. You put a fence around it, some poles in the ground and fix the solar panels. Job done.

Actually the Medupi and Kusile plants are not old at all they are brand spanking new. The problem with 'steam' as the profound and deeply spiritual thinker D. Trump has pointed out is that they use 'steam' which as any fule no is not electromagnetic it is thermodynamical, so old, i.e. victorian, sciencing stuff.

The other thing is that steam is a by product of water and if you got no water it is problem for steam plant yes - especially since SA doesn't have too much extra water to throw away.

Yeah Lindon - it is remarkable that those good-ole coal plants are producing no more than 2.3GW of their expected 9.6GW

Phase 2 of this project would be another 640 MWh and would probably be distributed across the other provinces.

Significant amounts of the money for this is essentially already promised by external agencies such as the world bank and the clean technology fund.
