The latest Investing Matters Podcast episode featuring financial educator and author Jared Dillian has been released. Listen here.
Talking of innovation, the Z1R had self cancelling indicators in 1978, I see companies selling kits to upgrade to this now. Your bike thread is painful for me, I have a fireblade sitting in the British Isles that I am unable to see with the current world situation. Honda Mugen are doing some great work with electric bikes...
You've gotten some great information here MK, and it's nice to see some diligent (potential) investors bringing some great subjects out on the forum again. The science is what interests me though I refrain from posting about the specifics, perhaps for fear of being incorrect as I specialise in other areas, and there are people far better equipped to do so as you have seen in some fantastic answers.
Good luck with research. I too like to have an interest in my investments fundamentals, it makes it more enjoyable.
Pros: You get to be invested in an innovative company that is rolling out an exciting product range with some big names that will hopefully be a big part of our future.
Cons: You've missed out buying at this share price 10 years ago and enjoying conversations on here with some colourful characters.

Hi MK, NEL are Norwegian and deal with hydrogen production and storage, they have some good information on their website. ITM could be seen as their direct competitors. NEL are not comparable to AFC, though many put all the hydrogen companies in to the same grouping.
AFC are just becoming commercial, and there are many exciting things happening. I'd suggest looking in to De Nora, Acciona, Jülich and Extreme E and what AFC are doing with these companies. For immediate markets look in to diesel generator replacement and electrical vehicle charging. For near future look in to their product called AlkaMem, and consider future potential with AFC and transport. It's best to do some of your own research, you may struggle to search this forum though there is some good information if you have the patience to search.
I'd say AFC has far more upside potential today than NEL, at least in the short term.
Just as a demo, one website (all the major ones have apps and are all similar) for one of the bigger El charging companies: https://gronnkontakt.no/ladekart/
You see how many chargers there are, the output of the charger, how many are free or not working, price per kWh, most popular times of usage, and of course an address. You pay with your phone effectively as you are signed up in the app. Simple.
Yes that article really summed up how bad the current setup is. This has actually renewed my faith that there is a decent market for the AFC charger in the UK.
Of course AFC and Porsche sounds nice, though by the sounds of it you should probably avoid making exclusive chargers. You need a network for all, a simple payment method and overview of where chargers are and if they are working.
I agree, to me it seems one or the easiest countries to own one. Even your long journeys are short! Of course this is not considering the current infrastructure there, where there is much work to be done ref threads from last 12 months :)
Thought I'd add my 10 cents on some of the comments made earlier.
We have a 7 year old ev in the family, the main difference you notice is of course the range has come a long way since then. Most manufacturers offer an 8 year guarantee on the battery now, and I wouldn't rely on the Tesla mechanics out living the battery, questionable build quality and terrible paint, though improving still some way to catch the big names. Great cars mind.
The new Tesla model 3 is quite affordable to people in Norway, people are quite lucky. People who can't afford a new one rely on the second hand market, and there comes a new hurdle as people are sceptical of buying a new ev let along a second hand one...
There are some great new cars coming out, especially for city people. My opinion of the UK is many people need to reassess what they need out of a car, there are some nice cars on the road there, and many seem to perhaps not be used for what they were designed for.
I've driven a tesla in below -30 and other new EVs. The battery holds up relatively well though you lose some range. Amusingly I know a few people with fancy plug in hybrids, and all of them minus Volvo. who fixed the issue, are having issues with the charging cable freezing in the contact, or the solenoid freezing so you can't remove it. Not ideal in the morning. Audi have recommended carrying a hair dryer in the car during winter!
I do agree that sometimes the constant comparisons to ITM and the others is a little unnecessary. Of course it's nice as we've seen their share price rocket, and they are all in the hydrogen field, though all very different companies.
One thing I do believe, is that if AFC get this right, which I now believe they are on track to, there is more immediate demand for their products than some of the other mentioned companies.
The question for me is simple. Do I think AFC have good products that are in demand, do they have necessary facilities to supply these products? I look again at the companies they have already teamed up with, these are all very soon to be a reality. AFC don't need to build a giga factory at significant cost, the process they are now putting together seems to be very efficient.
AFC may not have given us many numbers in the past, though we do have the numbers of BK Gulf being able to manufacture more than 100 units a year, and a final assembly plant in its current configuration being able to assemble up to 100 units a year. Coincidence, you decide. There are still some unanswered questions though that is what is exciting, and makes me think there are some more updates to come, and they will complete the puzzle.
Thanks MP0818, I was wondering what magic was used to make employees work in a manufacturing plant. AFC will be utilising an assembly plant though, maybe they will use this money medium to fuel that too. If only something came out of the other side of this assembly plant that would give them more of this money that they had put in in the first place... Could be on to a business idea there.
Definitely a vintage Barolo. Only you can decide the exit point, the entry has already been determined, however, congratulations on topping up at 8p, I braved 12p at the lowest. Having seen my average down almost 95% at some point, it's easy to sit and marvel at the profit on days like these, each tick creating a seemingly wonderful amount of money. Without sounding patronising, the age old adage of it's not profit until you sell is very true. Only you can decide when you would like to take some profit from your long term holding.
We are all here for similar reasons when you come to the final hurdle, and that is of course a return on our investment. Never regret taking a profit, who knows what may happen tomorrow, Covid 19 has been the latest demonstrator of this philosophy.
I'll have to skip on listening to Pink right now, though I do know the track you speak of. I'm afraid the only lyrics that have relevance to me are "La da da da da, la da da da da Da da da", which are the words I would sing when AFC was not doing so well.
Enjoy your evening, profit and wine :)
Apologies, the way she wrote. Some confusion around the sex of posters this evening, not that it matters. As a tribute, if some of these wild share predictions come true, I'll order the favourite drink of Alan Partidge, the "lady boy", and I'll even buy one for yellowf1. Perhaps he is a she, in which case we may see the posts change at her predicted price of £10, even with 3 shares I'm sure she'd be a happy Bond girl, along with the rest of the Addams family.
