On Wednesday, I got an unexpected invitation to go and spend next week with the French family that I used to au pair for. After checking that Ryanair was still flying the route, I booked flights. It’s literally taken me two days to try and understand the to and from France Covid testing requirements. After booking £150 worth of PCR tests, all my enthusiasm for the trip has disappeared. The powers that be really don’t want us to indulge in air travel any more! If I get a false positive and can’t go at all after all this outlay, I’m going to make it my business to find Boris and custard pie him!

So assuming that:
1) the new Gov guidance for COVID-19 test approval came into effect yesterday, booting Porton Down out of the picture
2) Avacta - in conjunction with Medusa - have already undertaken both the further clinical validation needed to comply with the new requirements and controlled testing of whether the test can work when self administered
3) They have now submitted the paperwork and paid the fee
We should be hearing whether we have home testing approval in about 20 days!

So I agree, could be any day next week! And it’s a BIGGIE!

If a director was to buy now, it would actually be bad news as it would mean no known news is expected in the next month.

A good example is Cathal Friel from ORPH wanted to buy for the last 4 months but as they had a Gov related human challenge study contract in the works, he told investors on a webinar he would buy and be allowed to at the earliest opportunity due to the market rules. He proceeded and bought a couple of weeks ago £300k once news was released, at a higher price than it is currently. The market took it as no big news was due in the next 4ish weeks, hence sold off down and have time to get back in for the rerate.

Given Avacta is waiting on what we all hope is massive news regarding home use / medusa, a director buy right now would raise more questions than showing confidence.

‘Sensitive as PCR’ implies false positives for infectiousness. What they really want is a test that’s accurate up to 27 CT. I think I’ve heard of one of those.

Of course it goes without saying that he has been ‘tentacled’ but I would expect nothing less of our dear leader (sorry philanthropist) than to have someone keeping an eye on cancer trials using a promising out-of-patent repurposed drug.

Exactly right. The article I posted yesterday from the Swiss Policy Institute cites data from Israel showing that for those who received two Pfizer shots in January 2021 (primarily the elderly), protection against infection and mild disease may already have dropped to just 16%.

Anyone who heard Andrew Marr describing his Covid experience after double vaccination would not be too keen on getting even a mild infection. So, given that it has already taken 8 months to roll out the vaccine amongst the U.K. population, and we are now talking about booster shots, the level of protection in any individual at any time is an unknown. That’s why I predict a mass roll out of antibody testing in support of the booster campaign and a much heavier reliance on accurate antigen testing for schools and venues going forwards.

In other words, it could just as easily be argued that the PCR test is crap and a false positive for infectiousness.

Well, I guess that, plus the fact that they had already had the original 2002-4 SARS outbreak to deal with. After all, Sir Al reckoned that one year in production for our LFT was quite a speedy achievement.
