It doesn't take an IQ bigger than my trouser-size to figure out it's not good.

It means that for some reason or another the rig's leaving Warwick Deep, and no flare has been seen, indicating a successful DST.

Of course, this doesn't mean the well's a 'duster' It may be they've had the same problem as on Halifax, in which case I bow my head to the other 'techies' here for having misinterpreted the rumour that the horizontal was drilled with negligible losses. Or it could be they've had some other sort of mishap with the DST string that makes it uneconomical to continue for now, when there are two other wells on the shopping-list to be done. I don't know.

One way or another, if they want AHTS's for rigmove (the word is out), this is an RNS-able event. And I sincerely hope that Hurricane will go into some detail about the reason for moving (for a change), because this is something of an 'oilman's share', a lot of people with technical knowledge are invested, and bullsh*t won't cut it.

One way or another, this is a bit of an unexpected turnup for the books. Even if it turns out that Warwick's not what everyone was expecting, it's far from being the end of the world. Because there's everything else already found, which is far from inconsiderable!

But I expect a bumpy SP ride next week.

Yes, I think you're right, but regarding 'informal news', see my post below.

One thing which might help is the upcoming CMD, but I haven't seen an RNS about that. People who were present at the AGM say the date was to be the 11th July, but we have yet to see that confirmed in writing by the company.

And yes, I was expecting flaring this week, but it hasn't happened yet, so I guess I was wrong. I've been getting occasional snippets of information about progress on WD, and I trust my 'source' 100%, but even then, the news is 2nd or 3rd hand, so has to be treated with caution. One has to 'filter' the plausible from the implausible, the probable from the improbable, and whether a new snippet is consistent with what's happened earlier, before drawing any tentative conclusions.

Obviously there's some sort of hiccup delaying things on the rig. But news has dried up because firstly people offshore work rotations and are not always 'in place', and also it seems the rig's gone into 'quiet mode'.

However 'hiccups' occur, they're part and parcel of oilwell 'constuction', even if this well seems to have encountered an unfortunate number of them.

The bottom line being, I don't know just what's happening out there, so can't give any prognoses. We'll just have to wait and see.

PS Personally I think this new site format sucks, and not very well, at that.

I was tempted to reply to your earlier post about gyro surveys (utterly wrong: only applies to 'surface hole') but didn't.

There are a number of LTH people invested here who know more about what's going on than you ever will, because of the time it'd take you to catch up, join assorted 'networks', and so on.

However, what we don't know is what the stockmarket is going to do next to hammer this share to a place it really shouldn't be.

There one or two or three posters here who proffess actual oildield knowledge. I won't name names, they know who they are.I'm one of them.

Have any of you heard the expression 'flash test' in the context of DST? Talking on the phone today with someone (talking about Warwick Deep) that phrase was mentioned, and I'd never heard it before.

So I phoned a couple of friends, one (retired) in Wales, the other on the first day of his hitch in Kuwait (where it's 45 degrees, not the paltry 37 here). Neither of them had heard of it, either.

So I got onto google, and it took lots of searching and cross-referencing, involving two more beers at the café, but now think I've sussed it.

But it does beg questions, like why coil wasn't onboard to start with. Maybe limited deckspace: it's a small rig.

Proper replies welcomed, usual one-liner from SotB anticipated.

The RNS clearly states why no Cali update, or at least in regard to VG4. It's shutin while they do the pipeline tie-in right next to a public road. Probably won't take too long. In the UK it'd probably take years, and be surrounded by protestors.

As fo MS, no specific timeline was given, and of course nobody's going to release 'data just as soon as the first donkey starts to nod. It's got to get 'bedded-in' to establish what the stable (and hence meaningful) flowrate is.

Nothing's 'late'. Just people getting impatient, as usual.

Wellwell, oli369's advfn post quoted by chablard mentions 'the past few weeks'. Which encompasses the period of the most recent actual rise, not simply the (yet more recent) drop. I doubt that CA reduced their holding AFTER the 'spike'. Not RB's style...

But the thing is, during the drilling process, numerous sectins of pipe have to be joined together. So if you're thinking fibre-optic, think of joining one bit to the next in 95-foot sections... One connection doesn't work, and comms are lost.

Far smarter minds than my own are still working on this, but progress is slow, and such technologies are a long way from being the norm so far.

Drilling rock creates all sorts of nasty vibrations, the forces are great, etc.. What works for smartphones can get instantly destroyed in that underground environment.

Radius? 3.5 or 4 degrees 'buildup' per hundred foot drilled.

Dunno if they're using 'rotary steerable' these days or sticking with 'bent-housing mud motors' like on Lanc 6. Suspect the former, though.

Hey! Wordspace on this BB is 2999 characters. Multiply that by ten, and someone might be able to reply to you with a very basic 'primer'.

Interesting you mention 'radius', though. Hurricane (from what one can see) is using a fairly 'standard' 4 degree buildup from vertical to horizontal. Nothing too severe.

HOW it's done? Think rocket-science, avionics, and so on, but in a far harsher medium than air or vacuum. Plus control data / reception and likewise is complicated, 'cos radio doesn't work through thousands of feet of rock.

Come pay me a visit, (you'll be welcome!) and I'll try to explain. But it'll take at least two days to scratch the surface, and lots of beer.

OK, seems like you've sussed me out, and figured what makes me tick.

But my truckracing friends are spread wide apart; none of 'em where I live. But when it's a race -meeting weekend and we get together in the paddock, it's a family get-together! Home again.

And poker? Yeah, some of them are locally 'friends', we socialise (or the opposite!) and so on. But 'they're ain't no friends at the poker table!'

You've got in fairly late to this HUR story compared with some others. And I understand your disappointment that the SP isn't 'skyrocketing'. But believe me, there are others who've been here for years who are left just as perplexed and frustrated.

Although I'm no-one to offer advice to anyone (except how to drill an oilwell), I'd suggest just gritting your teeth and seeing what happens.

MCB55, Yes. It's the 'deepest' (relative to the oil column) that Hurricane's drilled a horizontal. But also, it mustn't be forgotten that the entire GWA is structurally deeper relative to datum (sea-level) than is GLA. Plus (as an aside), none of the wells are really what could be called 'deep' ! 10,000 ft mdab (measured depth along borehole) sounds a long way down to the layman. With reason. But even in N.Sea terms, it isn't. 'Deep' hasn't got a precise definition, and it's evolved with the years. Nowadays it's thought of as anything over 17,000 ft.
