Looking at City analysts’ consensus forecast for BT’s free cash flow, it seems that they are more in tune with BT’s normalised free cash flow guidance – they ignore pension top-up payments. Assuming that these top-up payments come down from £1bn to around £600mn, and adjusting consensus forecasts, it appears that the dividend is uncovered in 2024 before being covered – just – in 2025 and 2026.

Arguably, this more conservative view of BT’s free cash flow generation explains why BT’s dividend growth is expected to be minimal for the next three years.

PE 6.6 but with the debt pile to consider which is why they rate sell , most say it’s good but there are better alternative investment cases with less debt.

I obviously believe in Bt as I’m loaded to the gills. But many don’t

As long as the dividend is maintained at 7.7p a year until the inevitable downsizing of expenditure in the next few years , then I’m happy. What we need to see is the share price steadily rise. Otherwise this is in the same boat of value erosion Vodafone currently appears to be in.

They won’t cut the dividend. It is easily affordable.

They committed on multiple occasions to progressive dividend policy , I can see this ambition not being met, I can see the divi stagnating at 7.7p which will be a disappointment. But a cut to it, no.

They said 5.4p freeze for full year, and the intention was to increase on the interim from 2.3p, which now looks unlikely with the economy how it is.

Was really hoping the share price would be staying around 160p by divi , as I wanted an excuse not to reinvest . I may reinvest isa and take cash as gia .. or reinvest in something else suppressed

Well I’m in my 30s and have 54,000 Bt shares as well as 13,000 in vod, and a few thousand in phnx lgen aviva Barc and house builders so I’ll continue to reinvest while prices are low and top up on dips too

Hmm that doesn’t do much to make me more positive about the prospects lol.

My gut feeling is things will stay depressed for years now as inflation will take years to subside.
