Buying before or after the ex date is trivial stuff , regardless of the investment size. It’s 1-3% either way.

In my mind only two things matter, buy quality when markets are down and hold them for 20-30 years.

You can do all sorts of trickery in ultra short term thinking, but days later your clever play can be wiped out by a dip.

Shares should be bought low and held long. A young persons game. And sell up with plenty of time to avoid inheritance tax , or dying on the job and never enjoying it.

Phnx isn’t BP, and dividends are decided on in a different way, as the poster below mentions, most financials do two divis

I’ve topped up aviva instead of this. I may top up here in future but have more money in than aviva so went with that

Fttc has been installed between 2009 and 2017

Mainly 2010-2015.

Fttc was mostly funded by the EU while the UK was a member under the BDUK and SEP schemes. These were mainly EU funded with targets on delivery and comparable commercial investment.

Over £2bn was invested by the EU. The reason being EU telecom standards. The Brexit campaign liked to espouse an anti EU campaign while many UK industries benefited from EU funding for under developed infrastructure. Not just telecoms but in water electricity gas compared to EU counterparts.

During that period BT benefited but under UK legislation were required to increase national speeds via FTTC. A quicker solution than FTTP.

Profits were somewhat filtrated to shareholders which can be seen on BTs historical dividend charts on their website.

The dividends in Bt will likely mirror the FTTC glidepath , going forward, but not by outside funding, its own long term conviction.

Just allowed my divi to reinvest

I didn’t buy shed loads of shares at 104-130 and all my Divis reinvested (except this time only 1/4) , just to sell at 150p

I want a lot more than that.

Bt has been through a bad 5-7 years. The next 5-7 should see some reversal.

I believe the dividend will progress the way it did the 10 years prior to its cancellation in 2020.

Take a look at the dividend history on Bt website. Then match those dividend years to the share price at the time. Fttc was during that period . Fttp is this one.

Having read savages comments about how good an investment BT is, to then say he isn’t reinvesting divi, and then saying he’s sold some shares.

I have to say at each stage I mention above my alarm bells were ringing.

I’ve filtered him, and don’t care what he has to say, he’s untrustworthy.

I’m holding for the long term.

However if I was inclined to sell it wouldn’t be for 6 months. One of the 9 BOE committee who voted against the last cut voted to hold this time. when asked why, she said it would seem odd to vote to increase rates like the last time, if in the near future she is going to be voting to cut.

So first we can see the boe panel make it up as they go along

But what we can read into it is the most cautious of the 9 is hinting they will vote to cut at the next meeting,

This is likely to mean the next few meetings will all be cuts of 0.25 at a minimum and there’s likely to be 0.5 cuts on the cards. This will see shares rise over 6 months as stocks tend to react 3 months head of most major moves both domestic and international.
