RE: The Tobii deal15 Dec 2025 21:32
I have respect for the Tobii product, for interior monitoring. Given their history in the eye tracking field, long term competition from Tobii is serious. But management hasn't been clever in the recent past. They should have seen the automotive driver and occupant monitoring use case much earlier. Now the field is moving too fast, if a company cannot come up with hundreds of millions of dollars to invest in the new use-cases like 3d sensing, new cutting edge AI models, both SW and hardware, it cannot survive. Tobii deal with the new Tier1 will drive down its profit margins, however the company realizes that it needs the support of deep pockets.
whoever has the money to invest in the next five years will create a product moat. SEE strategy of aligning with few Tier1s only, but in a deep and exclusive basis caps our higher end market share in automotive but i feel this is a safer option. the AI models are changing super fast, the hardware is changing too, there will so much need for cash to fund the next product lines.
