Very interesting points raised by all. This is strictly my opinion and could well be wrong, but here goes. Having a patent is not necessarily of any value. Best examples are the patent for compact casette, owned by the Dutch Philips Group, known as Combined Electronic Services (Purley Way, Croydon, I'm going back to the late 70's with that! ). Philips chose to allow any manufacturer a free licence to manufacture compact cassettes and equipment to ensure the product became a global standard. If I remember correctly they have done exactly the same with the compact disc. If having a patent means a licensing cost that renders the product more expensive than other similar products in a competitive market, that product will probably fail.

I've been investing too long to see any value in acting like a spoiled brat and I am still hopeful that this is on the turnaround. My only real gripe with the company was that bloke (non-executive director? I sure as hell hope he isn't an executive director) who talked rubbish about prospective take-over values a year or so ago. Arguably you can re-invest now, reduce your average and make a much bigger profit much lower in the share price than is currently the situation you find your self in.
