Just had a look at the company website home page. If you go there expecting brand promotion or statements regarding plans in place to improve profitability, forget it, they seem far more interested in wok symbolism. IMO this company is badly in need if a hostile takeover since the current BoD appear to be greatly distracted from their legal obligation to improve shareholder value.
Anyone have any idea why this blue chip share has done so badly on a 5 year basis. Its quite clear the majority of the board don't know what they are doing and need replacing.
Spot on Tom, inflation, energy costs & RasPUTIN all having a detrimental effect here, inflation & energy still to bite IMO.
I was fortunate to get out of ULVR at just over £40 for a profit but still like the company as a defensive, dividend payer so I'll almost certainly be back in again this year. Meanwhile, good luck all.
Same here but not with ULVR. Took the activist investor spike to sell a third of my ULVR @3976 (still at a small loss)
Keeping the other 2/3rds for now and just watching. I worry sky high energy costs and inflation are going to be very bad for everything, ULVR margins are going to be squeezed.
Throw in a war and not yet fully recovered form the worst pandemic in 100 years it's certainly hard times for some sectors.
Im tempted to buy but everything I touch at the moment goes underwater, including a portion of this.
I was averaging up. Ill be averaging down ........ on everything soon.
Thing is you have to jump sometime or you will miss it after it jumps.
According to Seeking Alpha:

Best Buy around 2400 then PE and divi ok
I would add that at todays lows its hard to imagine it not providing a profit over the medium/long term.
I would agree that maybe the stock is not what it was, but the markets in general are having a tough time at the moment and its a little harsh to lay all the blame at the door of ULVR.
More than a 5 year low. It seems that something rotten is happening within the company, considering for a considerable time it''s been performing far worse than the FTSE 100, which itself has performed abysmally compared to most world indices. I'm sure it will plummet below 3000 soon, and I certainly wouldn't be buying any more until Jope owns up as to what the problem is.
dunno about 52 week low, its not been here since 2017, i make that a 5 year low.
i THINK THIS IS CHEAP AND HAVING LOOKED AT ACCOUNTS CANNOT SEE MUCH EXPOSURE TO rUSSIA
I should add that at these prices the dividend is looking reasonable, but of course you would have to decide if thats a trap.
With this stock now at near 52 week lows for anyone considering opening a position I think now this may be a good medium to long term investment.
It won't help me though as I simply made an error and bought a while back with an average of £42, I'm not inclined to make this heavy in my portfolio to the extent that I would be required to invest to make any worthwhile dent in that average.
However as a new investor I would view this as having potential.
For me I'm unwilling to take a substantial loss as I believe long term I will see a profit, wars end, and the clouds of inflation will eventually move on. It may take some time but it will happen, it always does.
For those like me nursing a loss, its not pleasant but it will pass, for those not yet invested I honestly believe this is now at fire sale prices.
I'm not moaning, my paper loss is my error, not the stocks, it remains in my view a good stock despite perhaps the BOD not being at the top of their game. However BODs change, and sometimes for the better.
I think the problem is that it used to be a defensive share. The institutions have decided that it is poorly led and that it is now a good opportunity to offload. It’s quite hard to push a fundamental value argument when the institutions don’t like something.
I am going to hold for the long term but am expecting further falls over the next 12 months.
I agree its relatively safe as stocks go, but feel its heyday has passed. I won't be adding more but will continue to hold those I have for the moment, at least till the market recovers.
Man, I dont have any money anymore. Otherwise I would have increased my shares here. I dont care about the drop. I am down 10% but I am not worried even a bit. This is a safe investment.
So much for Unilever being a good defensive share, rubbish!
If the SP keep falling, it might be time for a top up. Only a small slice nothing that needs me to start stroking a white cat and inviting Mr Bond over for tea.
If you want to do a bit don’t buy shares or funds invested is the evil empire. Please pass it on in your own words.
I buy stocks to make money. I care not about CSR - it’s all a sham. The thought of companies getting involved in politics annoys me, even when they “come out” and say they support LGBTQ+, I think no sheet, 0 political capital spent there so why say it. . Terry Smith was right… stick to what you know and sell and make use of the pricing power with inflation about to get a whole lot worse.
Reading around, there is a groundswell of support for action such as this.
Im not sure stopping selling mayo and ice cream will stop Russia but I suppose it another bit of pressure.
As a shareholder, I can see that this might affect the bottom line and can understand those that just want sales no matter where attitude. I note the SP has fallen away a tad. This might be a mix of the action they are taking and the market in general. Hopefully we can be sharing ice-creams with our Russian friends soon.
Stick to selling product, don’t get involved keep a neutral stance, it’s obvious and the reason
you do that , is the world is complicated.
It gets even more dangerous when the over educated unintelligent elite think they know better
and need to impress their wisdom on the masses .
Their wisdom is predominantly from private education and they know nothing of the real
world and its complexities, you only get that from being street wise ! Dangerous times
made worse by stupid people in power and definitely in our government.
I'm sorry you feel sick over this, but imagine how you would feel if your home was invaded for no reason!
Also are you trying to say Ukraine deserve this because NATO (a defensive alliance) has expanded?
Russia also signed treaties saying they would protect Ukraine and respect their boarder...
Virtually every major corporation gets involved in political dessicion making, so I'm not sure why you think this should be different. With American politics being the worst case of companies getting involved!
Unilever are well known for make contentious dessicions for what they consider moral reasons and that's one of the reasons I have shares in them, (as do many ethical investment funds). Ultimately they have to do what is in the best interest of their shareholders, and if the shareholders vote at an EGM for them to make a statement then they will. Plenty of companies boycotted South Africa due to apartheid, Germany in WW2 etc etc so there is plenty of presedent.
I felt quite sick reading your message. I was going to let it go but I thought NO ! If you keep
poking the Russians and arming the border next to them where historic treaties have been
signed saying it won’t happen, what do expect ! Then to state clueless statements regarding
Unilever getting involved is clearly clueless on your part.
Unilever run a business as pointed out to Jope or Joker by Nelson Peltz so leave
the political decisions to the government to **** up. As the West clearly like sticking their
nose into other people’s business and always seem to get it wrong !
