I have thought for a few years now about Tesco matching Aldi prices on key lines and i am very pleased that at ;ast they are doing just that.
Time is up on Aldi & lidl price basket comparison.
Customers have now a choice to make, stick with Aldi limited product range in a often dirty uninspiring shopping environment and rushed staff doing there best to keep up the strict productivity output set upon them, especially at the checkouts, which i feel sorry for the older generation who get so flustered by the way there items are pushed through, or shop in a Tesco with a far better range to use if you so wish with all the other trimmings around you.
Hopefully an end of day bounce for you. I’ve had nothing through the post yet so have not made a decision and to be honest was going to hold on to the 270plus area for a sale of 5ks worth to keep the wife off my back.. really good analysis of the share from “simply Wall Street” which have the shares at fair value at £3.81! We shall see.
Alternatively if you get out at 225 level and the shares continue downward to £2.00 by the time you get your cash, simply buy thesame amount of shares back(( going on a £500 saye you’ll pocket £45k at 225 for20,000shares ,buy them back at £2 will cost £40k and pocket the odd 5k) if you have conviction they will climb back up to 250 level ,
Bought £400 of BT in the end at 138p seeing as the dividend is nearly 11% although that is under threat this or next year, but I’ll leave it there to compound for the kids university fund!
Bloodbath ! We took the option to sell the shares after 1st March when it was sitting at £26k value, now nearly £4k down and cant change the decision. In hindsight should have taken the shares and sold after the inevitable recovery..sometime!
At this rate we will be taking back the cash from the save as you earn !(7 more days at 10p a day ) I have to admit it’s a bit of a choker this week. But those with cash on the side lines and not a faint heart there’s quite a few bargains to be had. Hmmm where to put £300
The United States retail giant Walmart said on Wednesday that it is in talks with a "small number of interested parties" regarding possible selling off its majority stake in the United Kingdom's supermarket chain Asda.
In their joint statement, the companies said that they "are currently considering whether there is an opportunity for a third party to invest in Asda, alongside Walmart, in order to support and accelerate the delivery of Asda’s strategy and position Asda for long term success."
The decision came after last year UK regulators refused Walmart's plan to merge Asda with another UK chain - Sainsbury's because they said it would raise consumer prices.

Think the sells going through over the next week or so will be the colleagues cashing in their save as you earn scheme as they cash them in after 3 or 5 years of saving
It would be nice to have an update on the possible Asian sell off

True, there will be a reduction in plastic but there will be an increase in handling costs to stock shelves, to pick goods and to go through checkout.
Charoen Pokphand, which owns Thailand's 7-Eleven convenience chain; Thailand's biggest department store operator Central Group; and TCC Group, controlled by brewing tycoon Charoen Sirivadhanabhakdi, the FT said. They each submitted formal bids in mid-January to buy Tesco Lotus and are starting second-round talks in late Feb/March.
I've heard whispers of a special div , only whispers mind.
Would this mean a special div?
No further news means a sale is still being considered.
Would probably come down to price offered.
I'm sure that they would accept an amount in the £7.5 to £8 Billion range
Someone mention Tesco selling the Asian side of the business before xmas does anyone know anything or heard anything
Great move great publicity - simple solutions are the best.
Tesco aims to ditch 67 MILLION pieces of plastic by removing wrapping from packs of baked beans, tuna and soup... but promise shoppers they'll still get the same discount for multi-buys.
The landmark move, which applies to cans of baked beans, tuna, soup and other products, will eliminate 350 tons of plastic from the environment. And shoppers will not have to pay more for the items, which will be sold individually in Tesco’s 3,300 stores from March.
I went into M&S on Wednesday in Liverpool . lots of footfall , but not many actually buying clothes , so their worries are not over yet as regards clothing , but the food hall was quite busy and queues at all tills. Perhaps Tesco far east sale will come to fruition , as interest seems to be mounting , so I am just holding on at the moment , despite drop over recent days. Today's rise is encouraging .
I sold 400 last week at 256 to keep myself ticking over , if when you took the saye out at 150 5 years ago and they’d said it would hit 250p that’s a 66% profit you’d have snapped it out of their hands ..( like I did but I always predicted £3 just short then ) Also bear in mind the dividend will almost be 10p soon so they will also bear fruit of nearly 6.7% on that £1.50 saye price.. I was contemplating selling 5k and putting it in marks and spencer any thoughts, I went in there today, the cafe was packed, shoppers usually in 40 years up plus bracket. but I’d say 100 in the clothes store 50 in the food hall , plus when their tie up with Ocado gets up and running that’s should give them a boost perhaps maybe they could revisit £2.50 in the future.
The Far East needs a lot of investment to bring it up to speed so they can sell for a good price and concentrate on the home front.
Uncertainty regarding the Far East sale is dragging this down!
Unfortunately I am waiting for a SAYE scheme to cash in on 1st March and am watching the rewards drop daily!
Anyone out there to make a comment on far east sale worries ? Or am I the last one still standing.
Tesco beats rivals with 0.1% Christmas sales rise. https://www.msn.com/en-gb/money/business/tesco-beats-rivals-with-01percent-christmas-sales-rise/ar-BBYM2OT?li=AA54rU&ocid=mailsignout
Well I have to say our section manager was slightly pulling her hair out , so I’m sure she relaid it back to the night manager. Who would of relaid it back to the store manager and so forth.. “ well you d think unless they want their promotions.!”
I would convey to the top but already I’ve by passed the night manager to go to the store manager and the night manager branded me vindictive. Not long to my 30 years .so I’m not going to rock the boat until I’ve secured two more things. then I’m unleashing both barrels but drastic will be gone by then.
You need to convey this information to the top , as the ivory tower brigade often do not pay attention to the local areas concerns. We all want Tesco to succeed , and passing this information up is very important. The staff are the Company and you are the most important asset a company has. Good luck , and may I wish you a Happy New Year and hope things improve.
So they employed 15,000 temps( mainly agency staff) for the 2 weeks before Xmas.
Since they shafted us with getting rid of the staff bonus and overtime is now just the hourly rate.. of the 10 regular staff that work my fresh section on nights NOONE did overtime!!no one!! And just to give you a feel of how god damn useless some of them were it took one guy ALL night just to work 9 cages of juice I’d take 2 hours to do! And 3agency staff took all night to work cooked ham and sausage rolls!! Which would take are regular employee a night.. so basically it took 3 times as much to do the same job £10 an hour to £30 an hour not including what the agency got paid to supply them. Now tell me that’s money well spent? !
Also no canteen now so the Xmas meal turns into a buffet more moral list there too . I want the company too succeed as I want the shares to do well but they’ve well and truly lost the plot with the staff.
thanks rmr for the reply - esp. without getting all uptight like many would - take care
