To use the ' silver or lead ' analogy, Noboa's Government will want to offer not only the 'lead' punishment for gangs, corrupt officials etc, but also the 'silver' rewards of new investments, alternative legal trade and industry.
“The war on terror has provided cover to ramp up a radical pro corporate agenda, an agenda that could potentially defeat ecuadors leftist movements”
Swap terror for wokery and immigration and that’s what we need in the U.K.
I think it's great that Noboa is acting with force... really shows that Ecuador could be getting itself cleaned up for good. No wonder Mexico upset as clearly their corrupt man is going to be leaking like a tap... wouldn't surprise me if he's got info on a few other top mexican players which were previously affiliated with Correa.
There's no way Noboa would have been allowed to do this (by the powers that pull his strings) without full backing. Bodes well.
Noboa looking like the man to turn Ecuador around and I would guess the business world is paying attention now.
I doubt we need any relations with Mexico at all. What's Ecuador's exports to mexico?? Likely minor.
Noboa has IMF coing to his table in 4 to 5 weeks time. He'll want to show them that GDP will be on an upward curve and mining could account for 15% to 20% of total GDP in a few years time.
Well done Noboa... you have plaudits all aroud the globe already. The lefties are on the rack in suth america after having their day in the sun and are clearly worried about what's coming next. Correa's days look over now. Noboa looking very solid ahead of next Feb's elections.
There's an interesting comparison between Ecuador and the Philippines under Duerte. He was wildly unpopular in the international community, but hugely popular at home. His measures against the drugs trade were brutal and pretty barbaric, but did he care about what the UN said? Nope. He delivered really significant growth to the extent the country is now the fastest growing economy in Asia. The key difference is Nobby is no Duerte. He's not an unsophisticated yob.
Duerte's biggest mistake was to align the country with China, something Marcos has reversed and growth has continued apace. The Philippines has had a civil war going on in the south for decades and Mindanao is not a place you'd want to visit as a westerner, but still the mining industry invests there.
Has any of this deterred inward investment? No, quite the opposite and the US, and every major European nation has done what every nation does when it deals with a regime that may be a bit suspect; it pinches its nose and carries on regardless. It's called Real Politique.
Haha. A watch pot never boils. An embarrassed slug tries to blame 'woke' for his inadequacy. Night follows day.
Agree drake, brute force is a show of strength, knickers to the UN and the globalists
Bodes well going forwards if there is zero tolerance on serious crime and a pro capitalist agenda
Add, the inexorable slide to 5p is in full swing.
You sound pretty upto speed on the Philippines. Do you have a family connection with that country?
I have been to Davao, General Santos, and Tacurong City. As a Western, no problems encountered. Mind you, that was in 2001.
Eloro, yes, I shared a house with a Filipino at university and lived in Manila for a couple of years, albeit that was a long time ago. I still have a number of friends there and have maintained an interest in the country.
Sorry, I should have asked you, what does this 'inexorable slide to 5p' actually look like? Because I could have sworn the number I'm looking at on the screen begins with a nine.
Cheers Add, it is a beautiful country with lovely people. I found Manila overcrowded, but interesting. I prefer Cebu. I was last there in 2014.
See how I got the SP to turn around😆
Yes, good job! You've managed to do this on a regular basis and I only wish you'd do it more often. Some people may say you're talking tosh, but not me. Your unerring inability to guess the direction of the sp correctly is one of the most accurate counter-indicators I've ever come across. People are making fortunes on the back of your wishful thinking.
Keep it up! Your reward will come in heaven.
I am pleased that I am able to motivate the SP.
No, I want my rewards in the here and now, not in the here after. Although investing in solg is like gambling that we will go to heaven and not to the other place.
Can't be much longer with the cash running low.
Now li think adikts even surpassed himself,
Jumped in on the drug trade thread.
And low and behold. He lived with a philipino when at Oxford???,
Then bugger me, he actually also lived in manilla.
What the hell will he come up wiith next, to prove his point.
Emails from warren
2 senior ceo friends
Nuclear scientist neigbbor
Pr expert he met at uni
Went to oxford
Was involved in selling major companies.
Each and every claim on the back of him making his point, to further his argument.
As I said 1984, it's not a forum.
It's a fantasists paradise.
And your right, the board is no longer for me.
Fair enough NAL, cheerio 👋
'84, has he promised to leave again? Sadly, it's probably just yet another of his endless lies, but we live in hope.
The former vice president Glas, has been found in his cell in a "self-induced coma" following an overdose attempt.
No doubt this will speed-up Mexico's planned invasion and seizure of Cascabel.
Add, so there will be a vast improvement in spelling and diction on this board at last. Maybe we can start discussing SOLG like adults.
Don't get it twisted, add, even if you are trying to be funny. No one thinks Mexico is going to retaliate. It is president Noboa's statement since that could be a source of genuine worry to solg. We're looking to attract investment in Ecuador, and he has said that the dignity of Ecuador's people means it is okay to ignore international law. As a major, would you not be a bit worried that he's a populist who is willing to tear up international convention? It is these kinds of convention that would see his government stick to the terms of the IPA and any subsequent third party arbitration. The logic goes that if he's willing to violate the inviolable rules around foreign missions, how easily would he ride roughshod over an IPA?
I know the response will be 'but he wouldn't do that because that would hamper future investment', to which I'll simple say: the man just ordered the storming of a foreign embassy. He is not a thinking man.
SH, "don't get it twisted", perhaps you don't enjoy sarcasm when it's aimed at you? Which is strange, given how often you employ it.
As for the rest of your post, I refer you to my post of yesterday in which I drew a comparison with the Philippines. Admittedly, they didn't seize someone from an embassy, but Nobby's tactics mirror those of Duerte. Similarly, if you genuinely believe the Chinese, or indeed others, will be affected by this, I'm afraid I disagree.
God this BB got negative , its all to play for massive asset, at some point this will go
massive . :)
Well that's it then, if at some point it will go massive there's no point in any more discusssion.
The trolls continue to try to make Equador a basket case sue to entering the Mexican embassy, yet seemingly unaware there's been over 30 countries that have experienced the same in the course of history and surprisingly the world didn't end. More importantly, if you actually know the whole story, it was Mexico in breach of international law in the first place by granting asylum to a convicted criminal. Unsurprising given the country is run by the drug cartels.
On more worthy news, it looks very much like Equador will strike a deal with fhe IMF in a months time and with Noboa already managing to reduce Equadors risk premium from 2,141 points to 1,265 points it's already opened up the countries access to debt markets. The future looks bright.
We are living with the fear that Ecuador could nationalise cascabel. Any other worry regarding Ecuador is trivial by comparison. I just wish we would hurry up and flog solg so that we are no longer exposed to the vagaries of Ecuadorian politics.
“ We are living with the fear that Ecuador could nationalise cascabel”
I’m not ……
