Don't want to poor cold water on this but to my eye that camera was a technology that views depth and movement in high detail which is a different technology to SEE tech, it was also a wide angle, downward pointing camera.
I personally, don't believe that MBUX was primarily driven by SEE even if it may be a later addition to their suite for DMS.

But we also know that Byton decided to split the functionality and to use a separate Time Of Flight sensor near the rear view mirror looking down to pick up gestures. Whether we are still involved in that? I wouldn't like to guess

This is what CG said in their broker report dated 20th March 19
"Mercedes has embraced voice, alongside for example hand gesture, as one of several different HMI options, with which to interact with its all-new MBUX Interior Assistant infotainment system, introduced with the launch of the new CLA class. According to our industry contacts, the fact that the gesture control option functions via a camera
in the centre console and works in the dark, requiring the presence of a near-IR type
light source, implies the presence of an interior cabin sensor and algorithmic processing. This is well within the application spectrum of a company that can perform far more complex eye tracking, such as Seeing Machines. Furthermore, we know that Xilinx (Seeing Machines’ Fovio chip partner) is involved in MBUX as per itsdeveloper community forum/blog (12 Dec 2018) and subsequently telegraphed to the
outside world at CES 2019 (“Taking center-stage with Daimler”, 14 Jan 2019):"

Regards our silver award did we not also win with a gold with the MBUX with LG or is that still a secret.
The question I ask myself is, which do I prefer, a product which encourages a driver to look at the road, or one which actively distracts the driver?
SEE DMS is cheap, effective and robust which is why OEMs embrace it. OEMs are not gonna buy and install a system that is overly complex and costly. Complexity equals capacity for a greater number of things to go wrong. And maintenance issues, costs etc would be a problem.
I agree, the old adage KISS- keep it simple stupid.
Some cars try to look modern but they complicate things and can look like just fancy plastic.I would take a VW every time, basic knobs and buttons but everything works perfect and easy to use.
I don't want to sound like a luddite... But what is wrong with buttons?
My car differentiates between driver and passenger seat setting too. It has different buttons that I can find without looking down.
I actually dislike the screen in my car because you can't do anything without staring at it. It also has voice control which is great, if you can remember the 400 different specific commands to do anything.

Haha just thinking the same. Not apples for apples. One infotainment system that will have driver monitoring shouting at you and buzzing your chair like a giant sex toy in a brothel lol.

Lost out to Daimler's MBUX interior assistant - which is just an in-car assistant, similar to the functionality of most modern mobile phones. Has speech recognition and plays music, makes telephone calls and has sat. navigation. Worryingly the display is huge and non-tactile which would make it distracting.
Combining SEE's FOVIO and Daimler's MBUX would be an interesting combination. That seat would be a-buzzing!
