£4bn excess capital- nice position to be in.
Sorry, post creates a paywall. Search FT for the 'The Pru's challenge is a break-up gone bad.'
Not much cheer here either:

It was 195p if you go further back into the global financial crisis!
given the changes in the group, I think we need to consider more recent history.
It did drop below 640p 12 years ago so not quite bottom yet

You need to understand what the macro external factors have on the SP ... things like
1. Interest rates
2.Inflation
3. Asia and Africa economic growth rates
All thse affect the the amount of capital PRU has to hold and as such its profits, and also affects its targets for growth %
If growth falters and interest rates and inflation were to rise , or even be perceived to needing to rise via the futures markets , then the SP will suffer ..... as investors will go elsewhere and seek shelter in risk off fixed income for example..
Today US CPI figure for May and FED decision on interest rates .... double day news for the markets...futures markets not predicting too much change from either
The property / debt crisis in China affects the sense of wealth in the economy - we have had a recent commercial property crunch in the UK, but not a house price crash for a long time.
I am sure Pru through ts funds in China will own some property and shares in some property companies. While they may not take big right offs directly, the flow of money into the China JV may be reduced which will flow into lower profit expectations.
Many thanks Jatw. One thing if I can clarify, the property crisis in China shouldn't directly impact Pru as it is primarily a life insurance and annuities business right?
I must say, it sounded odd that they didn't have the AGM in UK and instead chose to do in HK.
Ref RNS, 5.6GBP ? this will surely make a dent in the SP, won't it? :-(
Nice summary JATW
Good overview Jatw. Unfortunately, the SP performance is abysmal. Should've sold on the recent spike above £8! I don't understand why there's such a disconnect between what the brokers say it's worth and the actual value!

The mighty Pru is like the Titanic the flagship of insurance, but is slowly sinking two years ago £18 approx get rid of captain plus fat cats restructure is the only way to plug these holes that are getting bigger everyday Mg plc have got a far better crew, why are they not suffering, alarm bells should be ringing but I guess nobody is paying any attention they must be all deaf or daft.

Hard to see £12-15 by the end of the year!!??
I agree with you stockready1. I’d also make the point of what’s going to happen in August. I’m fairly confident the Pru will start a share buy back and maybe a special dividend. I’m going £12 by Christmas and £15 this time next year. Glah and dyor.
For those who are thinking of 12 months + investment here this is still a unique opportunity to add and you have not miss any boats here yet as the upside is massive and yet to come.
It really doesn't matter you entered at 7 or 8 if you are a medium to long investor here, I mentioned what would come here long before and averaged down when this was at 7.40 mark and so glad I did and will add more if drops below 8, the game has changed here
I am expecting massive rise here in the next 12 months
Going absolutely NO WHERE... :-) here to stay and will add more.
My prediction is at least 15 within the next 12 months.
I always repeat, share don't go up in stright line, expect a healthy breather as some get out at different stages.

If the eps gets to 103p, they can afford a much higher dividend and buy backs.
I expect they will indicate a formula for shareholder returns - similar to AIA.
With eps still forecast to rise to 103p/share over the next 18 months it’s not on a demanding valuation.
Thnx for link covering poorly attended AGM with no indication of future plans for capital in terms of either buy backs or growth, which will be announced by half year results. For 40% UK shareholders there will be an informal AGM in UK by end of year ! Brokers regarded Q1 results as so so, Chinese property/credit concerns not helping sp. Barely positive just about sums it up...
Sorry, link creates a paywall but can be read for free at ft.com.

Why PRU HKG seems to be on a different gear?
Predict tomorrow this will end up around the 845 mark just under the daily 200MA.
Also very happy. Nearly 15% since buying in a month ago
Very happy with the way PRU has performed these past few weeks , will hold this for great Dividends and growth in SP
GLA LTH
Also extremely happy! 13% up since I invested last month. SP felt so low and with economies bouncing back in China and bull run with FTSE, stars seem to be aligning. If we have share buybacks later on in the year, we should cruise past £10. It looks like we finally bottomed out around the £7 mark and the analyst predictions of roughly £12-£15 could be accurate. Still think entry point here is low and a positive six months ahead. Look at the trends in previous drops and quite often there has been a quick bounceback. Good luck all!

For those interested, there is a board for Jackson - 0jkf (zero at the start).
After starting at $25 on demerger, it is recently trading between $75-80.
It seems to have plenty of capital to spend on buy backs.
The US regulators appear to have royally screwed Pru by not allowing it to take a special dividend before demerger (which led to a HK share offering)….only for US management to pay it out to now mostly US shareholders.
Anyway, it is good news to see the Pru SP rising after such a sharp decline. I am sure it will go back to £10 in the not too distant future driven by 9-12% sales growth, but whether it can get back to the £13-15 range is much less certain….It was probably priced for a prolonged boom in China which is still doing quite well compared to European economies but not as well as predicted pre-pandemic.

Very content with PRU atm after the flak that was taken at £7 when I stated I was adding - a UK bull run is starting at last.
Daily 100 MA has been in control of the price since May 2023. Will be interesting to see if it's broken on this rise. Downtrend since Jan 2023 has been clearly broken which is great to see also.
Been going great guns these past few weeks soon be in sight of the next level £8-9 in short period , imo

This will be over £ 13 by the year end
Sentiment has changed here massively and we will start to see a significant move upwards within the next few months.... not in stright line but it will happen.
Paitient is the key and it will pay off to those who understand the concept of hold on to your value stock and don't be fool by market play. Remember RR. ? It was played many times under £ 1, I was among very few who said at the time RR will be over £3-4 within 2 years , no one believed me, they were all wrong

Mentioned as a takeover target in the mail today because of underperformance of SP due to China worries. Seem to remember this discussion as the split happened however with SP where it is now I suppose any thing would be good news to fire up share price. Big losses here i.m afraid. I did think M&G would perform better and added many times. Divi tomorrow made add if SP drops. Got to be a way to claw back losses.

Investment in ASIA .....
Microsoft chairman and CEO Satya Nadella on Wednesday announced “significant commitments” to build a new regional data center in Thailand, among other initiatives
This comes as company announced a day earlier that it will be making a $1.7 billion investment into Indonesia over the next four years to build new cloud and AI infrastructure.

Good morning
Entered a holding here from my SMDS sale recently as PRU adds geographical diversification and hopefully some higher growth. I'm inclined to think that concerns over China exposure are a bit overdone as PRU reaches wider than that. FY23 and Q124 were not bad thus looking on this as a good entry point.
Have a good weekend.

Apple Results : - the 8.1% drop in China sales was not nearly as bad as consensus expected, which fear a double digit drop was coming. The CFO said that the China concerns were overblown. “We were happy with our results in China,” he said. “The reality is different from maybe what you read at times.”
Hopefully this is the bottom of the China property market.

Strongly disagree solomonkane. Since the spin out from "old" Prudential, this is an embryonic business. The statement made yesterday was very transparent, they will make an announcement regarding their "capital management plans by HY 2024 results". A tiny bit of patience required my friend.

Won’t this help us? Savings and investments in our products, many won’t use cash of course
I can see where these crazy broker targets come from now. Is 5 years a long time to wait to more than double your money safely, I don’t think so
£15 in 5 years time will do me nicely thanks
Looking at the number of countries we are expanding in across three continents id say they are still in the early stages of a snowball, clearly long term growth stock
I wouldn’t be surprised to see turnover double over the next 5 years as Asia returns to 5-10% growth
Brand strength going to be key

Let's hope we hit bottom yesterday. Only upwards from here hopefully 🙏 😀
I bought yesterday too.... mainly because I thought it was an insult to price them so low.... decided to give the shares a proper home :-)
I topped up yesterday hoping that's how low the price will go. This stock should do well.....at some stage anyway . :) 😀
