Well done Skibba - you didn't know it but you had a hand with me getting involved here - all the very best.
Well done bud... Enjoy the rewards. All the best Frits
What made you sell up Skibba? Surely the next few pence are as dead a cert as anything else on Aim?
...I'm done. It's been fun Marl'ers. I'm out ladies & gents....wishing all remaining holders the best of luck. May try & pop in from time to time. Bushy, General et al....lets try & get these drinks arranged when we get a chance...we said we would, be rude not to :) Good luck! Regards Skibba
SAND USA SP = 381 = MARL LONDON 104.76 We are still being short changed by 7% No wonder orders are almost impossible to fill at these prices.. Still 11 whole points below the offer price which I find hard to believe will not have been agreed with all the brokers and those inside 'the loop' Still a hold for me
Thanks guys. I think that makes it more straightforward in terms of selling Sand shares after the deal if it goes through.
:) Bid has been increased...
Yes, that is correct
@Orientfrance - yes, I think that is correct...but pls DYOR etc etc
As far as I can work it out this tax only applies to dividends not to trading profits on sharedealing. Am I correct?
No worries Terrafin - hope it helps. There is nowt you can do about the withholding tax - except reduce it.
@Skibba - good article - cheers.
My impression was that Sandstorm have historically tended to do share buy-backs rather than dividends, which would be ideal. (Anyone else corroborate this?)
@terrafin - any dividends are taxed at local rate - therefore any dividends received from SAND will have the USA withholding tax of 30% applied - REGARDLESS of the share being held in an ISA or not - the IRS don't care. HOWEVER, completing a W-8BEN form reduces this amount from 30% to 15%. CGT implications, as far as I am aware, do not change. http://moneyweek.com/putting-international-shares-in-an-isa-62914/ DYOR Skibba.
With a valid W-8BEN, the only taxes that you will pay to the USA is the 15% foreign tax withholding on share dividends deducted at source which can be credited against your UK tax liability. Example. - If you are a 20% tax payer, you need to declare this as "foreign income" and you will still have a net liability of 5% to HMRC. Neither ISAs nor SIPPs protect you from foreign withholding tax. The IRS and other foreign countries don’t care about UK tax shields, so you will have to pay 15% withholding tax.
*Not* asking for tax advice here lol!
Wow that W-8 BEN form is gonna be a pain in the a*se.. don't really know what to put in Part II Section 10 - what 'Article & Paragraph' is it and what % figure should be used?
My understanding is that if you hold your shares in an ISA there is no tax on dividends from a US Share - it is just like holding a UK share in this case. If the shares are not in an ISA then the 15% is applicable.. please correct me if I am wrong on this
https://www.share.com/vodafoneverizonimpact/what-is-a-form-w-8ben/ You will still get 15 per cent tax on dividends so does this mean when the cash comes across 15 per cent will be deducted before it hits my ISA? This really hurts! I may sell and buy back into Shares on Canadian exchange through ISA to save complications of cash treatment by US authorities. Thoughts anyone please?
@Road Tax - my understanding is that the W-8BEN only limits the withholding tax from 30% to 15%. You then have to claim the 15% back from HMRC (if shares are held within an ISA). Also, what is your broker charging for the FOREX exchange as no money in an ISA can be held as foreign currency.
My broker has no issue with me holding the new shares and I've completed a W-8BEN form to exempt me from any US tax. I see this deal as a transfer of Hot Maden to SAND. I get cash and the ability to still benefit from Hot Maden as it progresses via SAND. I started buying more SAND shares when the price collapsed as it was clear to me that the price would recover. For a few mouse clicks in buying some shares and making a shit load of profit for nothing on my part, not sure how I can be critical against GP and ER who have got the project to this stage.
Ludeck sticking with the other for the moment but keeping a watch here. Think LTH's will be rewarded in the run up to the vote, especially with POG flying. GLA
I reckon both this and the other share you're referring to will go up by about the same % over the next couple of days. Perhaps more certainty here, but slightly more potential upside over there. So take your choice.
SAND now at $3.82 up 5.68 % - could be an interesting rest of the week here ... strap in ..
Skibba definitely get you that pint. Bloody wife is already trying to spend the money so we better get it sorted. BMN thanks for the heads up I'm liking what I'm reading about it and Mr fortune. Catch up soon sir, with the general and ludeck.
