Holcim has completed a major expansion of its cement holding facility in North Fremont, allowing the plant to meet ‘growing’ market demands in the Omaha region. The US$20m project includes additional rail capacity, a new 50,000t cement dome, an extra silo and a blender for product mixing.
According to the company, the facility now employs seven staff members, up from three, and fulfils the Nebraska Department of Transportation's blended cement requirements using natural pozzolan to create a lower-carbon product.
Holcim's head of US Corporate Communications, Lynn Safranek, said "The availability of extra cement storage and the addition of rail capacity means fewer trips to transport cement from Holcim’s plant in Ste. Genevieve, Missouri, and more reliance on train transportation, which is more efficient than other land-based alternatives.” Safranek said.
Can someone get a train line connection in towards the CS site ??? If anyone can Holcim can :)
SP seems to be pinned at these levels for some reason and has been for weeks now.
Last few trading days :
50 + million buys and 3 and a half million sell - no tick up ?
Anyone know why the mm's are doing this ?
Could there possibly be an overhang from the sale of Net Zero shares ?
Is the volume just not big enough to move things ?
Check out this new piece of news !!
Holcim US has announced an investment of US$20.5m in its Midwest operations. A key component of the investment is the new 35m-high cement storage dome in Fremont, Nebraska, which will increase its production capacity of ECOPlanet low-carbon cement. The dome has the capacity to store 50,000t of cement. Construction of the dome, which began in 2021, has contributed to local economic development and job creation at the terminal.
In line with the Nebraska Department of Transportation's blended cement requirement, the cement blended and distributed at the terminal incorporates natural pozzolan, a binding agent, to produce a lower carbon product compared to ordinary Portland cement.
LOAD UP :)
A Global change in the way cement is produced is taking off .....
Siam Cement Group (SCG) has introduced a new low-carbon cement, contributing to Thailand's net-zero ambitions. According to the company, SCG is Thailand's first cement manufacturer to produce this eco-friendly cement, reducing CO₂ emissions to as low as 0.05t during production. The new cement reportedly matches or is stronger than traditional Portland cement. SCG achieved this by improving its manufacturing processes, using clean energy sources and waste heat utilisation, leading to a 38% decrease in energy consumption. The company also modified raw material ratios in order to further reduce emissions.
The last line above - "The company also modified raw material ratios in order to further reduce emissions." - so they perhaps added a SCM ( Supplementary Cement Material) - Pozz is one of the best SCM's available to some companies :)
Needless to say we have this is in big volumes at high quality grades - C'mon PC get that deal signed ..........
As we stand currently - so no need to go back over the years about what happened 10 years ago yada yada - I would now much rather be in this than out at this stage.
As PC has demonstrated this week if the CS deal is done we are unlikely to get wind of it - unless there is a leak - until it lands / is announced. ( unless he actually asks share holders for a yes or no on the deal presented - unlikely)
At this point imo a rapid rerate will happen with the SP and it may be hard to get in at any volume ....... we shall see
Caddy i'm not sure you understand things - Twiggy tried to point this out to you yesterday.
In Pozz we have one raw material ( a component) that could be used by big boy cement companies to formulate a reduced Co2 cement product.
Federal Government is not going to be giving subsidies to the likes of SRES - it is the big boys it is trying to force the change on turbo charge the change in co2 friendly cement production.
SRES may find a benefit from this money if one of the big boys then decides to uses our pozz to develop its cement - its a food chain and we are only a very small part of it - but potentially a very significant one. ! :)
Have to agree 1Investor on all your points.
If PC pulls off a fair deal with one or more than one company it really does become a game changer / company maker for SRES.
No doubt a SP rerate will follow ...... the next few months here could be very exciting and I wouldn't be at all surprised to see a gradual uplift in the SP as the weeks go by now....
The US Government is now throwing money to help fast track new co2 friendly cement - its all good new folks !:
US Department of Energy grants funding to four cement producers
26 March 2024
The US Department of Energy has selected four cement producers to receive funding under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the Inflation Reduction Act.
Heidelberg Materials US secured up to US$500m for its planned 2Mt/yr carbon capture project at the Mitchell cement plant in Indiana.
National Cement also received up to US$500m, for its Lebec Net Zero limestone calcined clay cement (LC3) project in California.
Summit Materials received up to US$216m for a series of clay calcination projects in Georgia, Maryland and Texas.
Lastly, Roanoke Cement will receive up to US$61.7m for an LC3 project at its Troutville cement plant in Virginia.
Senior vice president of government affairs Sean O'Neill “From passage of the Bipartisan Energy Act of 2020 to securing funding through the Inflation Reduction Act and the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, today's announcement is another major milestone in the cement industry's decarbonisation efforts. The PCA is committed to continuing to work with policymakers to ensure the regulatory environment facilitates rather than impedes these and future investments.
1wager
- this is just an example of one company looking at a new way to produce Co2 friendly cement .
- there are many different ways and companies including the cement big boys are changing the materials they are going to be using going forward and blending with pozzolan is certainly a good option for them.
- the more I read the more I see the industry making a change.
- this could well be our year and yours as I fully expect the SP to go well beyond 0.28 when things start moving here :)
Interesting ........
Brimstone negotiates funding for new cement plant with US Department of Energy
26 March 2024
Brimstone is negotiating a US$189m Federal award with the Department of Energy to finance the construction of a new decarbonised cement plant. This plant will produce up to 140,000t/yr of Ordinary Portland Cement and supplementary cementitious materials, reducing CO₂ emissions by 120,000t/yr.
Brimstone's process uses carbon-free calcium silicate rocks, reducing its CO₂ footprint. In July 2023, Brimstone's cement met ASTM C150 standards, confirming the effectiveness of its decarbonised process. The company is preparing to construct a pilot plant near Reno, Nevada.
Titan a global company ( operates currently on east coast of USA)
Deals are being done in Europe:
Titan Cement International buys Vezirhan pozzolana quarry
30 January 2024
Turkey: Titan Cement International (TCI) has acquired concession rights to the Vezirhan pozzolana quarry in East Marmara. The quarry will help TCI to expand its low-carbon cement production capacity. By 2030, the company aims to reduce its CO2 emissions by 35% from 1990 levels, and include 50% green products in its portfolio.
Titan Group Eastern Mediterranean regional director Christos Panagopoulos said “Access to Vezirhan quarry’s strong reserves potential and high-quality material will allow Titan to further broaden the portfolio of low-carbon cementitious products available to its customers. The quarry has access to a deep port and railway transport, facilitating both land and seaborne distribution across Titan's global locations.”
Group chief sustainability and innovation officer Leonidas Canellopoulos said “Being future-ready for a net zero world is more than just an ambition for Titan, and the acquisition of concession rights in Vezirhan is part of our solid roadmap that entails over 100 initiatives, covering the entire scope of our geographic operations and span of our value chain.”
BOTS - take a couple of hours over the weekend to research / investigate - seek and you shall find !
PC may actually pull this off over the coming months and lay the golden egg - a good time to buy and with a little momentum who know where the SP will be before the deal .......... 0.2 by end of May ??
Indeed - some buys coming in now -a tick up on its way - perhaps the worm has turned.
Has PC got a decent deal in the pipe - hope so
I notice CO2 friendly cement is on trend now and many of the big boys are starting to produce it with blends to replace fly ash ..... could this actually be our year !
PC buying shares on the open market is a signal to the market that perhaps he sees significant changes coming in the short term probably with the CS Project.
With that in mind what would be the best outcome for us ?
- I would rather see a complete sale of the CS project to one of the big boys rather than a JV with revenue stream.
- Do we think the 3 interested parties PC is in discussions with are also considering the Hazzen project as perhaps part of a bigger deal to include with the CS ?
Could this finally be coming together, all will all be revealed hopefully within the next 3 months ............ ?
