Patxd, if we're smoke free, then there'll be a lot more drug addicts on tranq, fentanyl or some other cocaine based drug.... Cigarette smoking is a much better activity than the highly addictive much more dangerous drugs sweeping the US and now starting to appear in Europe. What the politicians don't realise is that a high proportion of the population needs some kind of drug to cope with the life of today.
Lol more chance of being oil free, than smoke free. have you walked past a pub recently
Will we be smoke free by 2030 with newcrippligtaxes?
You make so many price target calls on different stocks,
just wondering what your winning trade % is?.
Reaction today , if closing price can stay above 1745, pivot will be intact. There appears to be support further down between 1735-1740. IMB, companion tobacco coy, is weaker and has broken two bearish pivots , in dropping.
We have a lot of debt so any base rate raise by the BoE will impact the SP. I don't understand then why we continue with the share repurchase instead of lowering debt. Once rates start going down again (next year?) this will lift off..
Strong general market reaction today, but IMB, should be a hold unless sp, closes below 1738. I have just left a message on ticket SUK2, which is reverse of the UK100, advising FTSE100, bearish since 19/6/23, with other indicator showing FTSE100, started bearish trend in 1/5/23.
Sorry meant 30/5/23 for trough not 30/5/22,otherwise my comment is still valid.
The longer-term chart reveals that a straight uptrend line can be drawn from troughs, dated 6/11/20, through 8/3/22 to 30/5/22, which is bullish, since large trendline tends to hold. The sp, requires to close above 1772.5, to confirm bullish upside action for a buy. Alternatively, if the relative strength indicator crosses above 50, buy. The is overhead supply at 1800,relating to 2022, but The most recent overhead supply is at 1856. If sp, can push through 1800, next target is 1856, or higher.
Another stock I'm holding onto for the big dividend payouts. At some point I'll need to scale back.
How long will I need to wait for £19.95 ?
There is hope, down trendline from May, has been broken, and largest volume for 4 months was on 31/5/23 ,which coincided with a candlestick doji, meaning probable short term bullish action. If sp, can close, above 1750, buy, with price target of 1850, for selling. I consider this to be a bear rally, so not a medium to long term investment at present.
What about today?
We're up threppence as I write so there's hope after all.
Correction to my previous post, meant the relative strength index(RSI), not Bollinger bands for the bullish 50 level. If the daily RSI, does break above bullish 50 level, and a position is opened , be prepared to sell if the RSI, falls back below 50. Bearish equities sometimes make brief appearance above 50 , before falling below and resuming down trend .
There is a well known head and shoulders sp, pattern on the chart , which can be used to provide a sp, forecast of approximately 1520. Other than that there is significant support at the levels of 1500 and 1250, relating to previous sp, history.
Bollinger bands on weekly and daily are both below the critical bullish level of 50. Until such time as at least the daily breaks above 50, leave the share.
The chart has been trending down since 26/4/23, as indicated by the lowering lower peaks and troughs in the chart. You can pretty well draw a straight line sloping down over the peaks since 26/4/23. As long as that down trendline remains intact, the trend is down. The sector chart should be your go to guide as to whether to invest in an individual share.
From a TA perspective we are in a long term channel with a bottom around 1670 or so. We may get there then bounce. Upper boundary around 2070. This is the time to accumulate, not sell. Wait for 2000+..
Stargate, you're obviously well into Technicals. Why is the Tobacco sector chart bearish please ? Tobacco is one of the Recession-proof sectors.
Patxd, do you think Labour will also abolish Cakes, Sugar, Fizzy Drinks, Alcohol, Deserts at restaurants, etc... in thename of good health. And while they're at it, provide low stress employment for the millions who've lost their jobs in Tobacco cos., Pubs, Hotels, etc...
Think they're at the bottom. Safe bet. Excellent dividend stream.
I'm with BARCLAYS on this one: 2500 price target.
IMB soon back to 1200. Labour will abolish smoking and vaping too. Chinese will be following before long too. But how they stop the ‘weed’ never never.so everybody a bit healthier. Amazing how after small time abstaining you find how little you needed tobacco. It’s a curse on health. But need be careful with weed too. Better investments for future.
Terminal, hadn’t checked these for a while, bailed out at 27 when Terry Smith who had held them in Fundsmith said the management was dire and dumped them, best thing I did was follow him even tho I lost money, put the dosh into Msft at an exchange rate of 1.34, this was the last U.K. share I held ( thank god ). It’s dogshxt. Like the whole of the ftse. People buy it for yield but it’s capital destructive, mountains of debt and dying ( literally ) industry.
The long term chart for Imperial, shows a major bullish trendline at 1750, and there is support at 1800, so a worst case basis, does not see much more scope for continued fall in sp. There is nearby price support at 1850, from previous bottoms, but it remained be seen whether that support will hold.
The most powerful tobacco sector chart has been displaying a downtrend for the last six months, confirmed by the lower peaks and troughs in the chart formation. Often the answer to why a chart is falling is not known until a much later date , when the information is no longer useful. Imperial sp, is now in the area of a number of previous lows, which may be tradeable for a bounce, however, since the tobacco sector chart is bearish, it is not worth betting the bank.

Investors brace to see if Imperial Brands can light up vaping future
CHARLIE CONCHIE
IMPERIAL Brands will be looking to convince investors its vaping and so-called 'next generation products' can light up profits in the long-term as it updates the City with its first half results on Tuesday. Like its competitors, the tobacco giant is grappling with a downturn in traditional tobacco sales and a pivot from consumers to vaping. The chief of the FTSE 100 firm, Stefan Bomhard, struck out on a five year plan in 2021 to try and ensure its long-term profits don't go up in smoke, with a re-set in its 'next generation products' (NGPs) and a focus on five key markets for tobacco central to the plans. Analysts are pricing in a further 5.6 per cent drop in traditional tobacco product volumes this year to 209m, including the loss of 7bn stick equivalents after the withdrawal from Russia, meaning analysts will be keenly watching tomorrow's numbers as a benchmark for the months ahead. "Even those investors who do not run strict ESG screens must continue to ponder the long-term future for smoking in the wake of a respiratory virus pandemic; the ongoing regulatory pushback against the industry; and Imperial's own efforts to adapt to the possibility of a brave new world by developing its next-generation products," said Russ Mould and Danni Hewson, AJ Bell analysts in a note. Total pre-tax profits for the full year to September 2023 are expected to come in at £3.56bn, according to analysts's consensus figures, with NGPs expected to contribute £247m of total £8.13bn across its products.
The amount of people vaping is unbelievable in this day & age, in the 70s everyone smoked & now nearly everyone vaps. I was out locally yesterday as my local rugby team won promotion so they put a band on outside & I was amazed how many people vaping, we also have this problem in my school as these kids are totally addicted to vaping that they want to use the toilet every 10 mins as they hide the vaps above the ceiling tiles. This have made the decision to remove all ceiling tiles in the toilets & I know from other head teachers that they are doing the same ? Big money to made in these companies but it is a concern as this habit of smoking/ vaping will never stop.
