great britain. great britain? are you serious? how about " great if you are rich, but s**t otherwise britain"? that's more like it. looking at scenes of people queuing up in the street in devon to get bottled water, is like watching an aid drop in the congo. but the bosses, and overseas investors (70%) don't give a f**k, and just take the money and walk away. take an essential, like water, then monopolise and privatise it. what do you expect? welcome to britain.
food banks, child poverty, extreme inequality, homelessness, depravation, depression, misery, social unrest, rampant crime, broken criminal justice system, no control of borders /immigration (except of course. having vowed to reduce immigration to the tens of thousands, last year it was 750,00 - that's not a mistake, that's the policy), broken roads, polluted rivers, massive debt, broken health service, corrupt further education system, rampant corporate greed, corruption, self-serving, entitled, greedy, selfish, arrogant political class. i'm only just warming up. with an election coming up, if anybody from the current regime stops me in the street to ask for my vote, i will probably headbutt them. then again, the other lot aren't much better - you basically have a choice between an oily little t*at who cant even buy trousers that fit him, and someone who asks an advisor every day what his opinion should be. as for the usa - you have tens of thousands of brilliant people, who lead the world in every field, but you have a choice between biden and trump . seriously? seriously? quite bizarre.
meanwhile, the world burns, and the nutters in iran/china/russia etc grow stronger, while the west debates whether a man can have a vagina, or a woman can have a *****.
time was when the phrase "the world has gone mad" was nothing more than an expression of frustration. now it's a scientific fact.
can't cope with much more - need to retire to a hut in a norwegian fjord to escape the madness.
anyway, apologies for straying off topic - have a nice day!
Not sure what happened to the capital letters there. Sorry.
Bobbins, good rant. My feelings and thoughts exactly.
Just one point I'd like to make, even if you escape to some remote fjord, the anger and frustration will never leave.
Having lived out of the UK for 14 years, I still get angry at the UK government.
If it makes you feel better, (it won't), but here we have @25% of the population living day to day.
Wrap your head around that, one of the 'wealthiest' country's in Europe and there are food banks!!
Corruption is widespread throughout the Western 'civilised' world.
I have held a long belief that it is all an illusion to make people think they are better off than they really are.
If you repeat a lie often enough...
I agree entirely with your sentiment's bobbins and fordm.
there were two things that got my attention.
on the bbc , it said the second most popular name is Mohamed
and winner of euro song contest (if you can call it that) do's does not class him/herself (not sure how to define that) as either a man or women. what's my point you may be thinking. well, it seems to me uk is a very confused (defiantly corrupt but where isn't) place to live. i have no regrets leaving uk. and if anyone out there is thinking of leaving. do not think too much, just do it.
have a lovely weekend all
The most popular boys name in the UK is Muhammad. The second most popular is Mohamed.
Bobbins2...You forgot knife crime, acid-attacks & institutional paedophilia, amongst a certain demographic.
A 2020 report by the Centre of Expertise on Child Sexual Abuse stated that "In the records of defendants prosecuted for child sexual abuse offences" among those in which ethnic background was recorded "the vast majority were white (89%); 6% were Asian, 3% were Black, 1% were from mixed ethnic backgrounds and 1% were...
YorkshireBlues, stop that, you will only confuse those that believe 'ethnics' are to blame for the demise of UK and English culture. Yet Mosques are filled to capacity every Friday and Churches are empty or being sold off to make clubs and pubs. So who is to blame?
Don't get me wrong, I do not advocate a religious zealot society. But a moral compass must come from some where if it cannot be found within oneself. Self learning and deep thinking is required, alas, that skill has now gone for most.
Well said Fordm but bigots need to be called out. Especially ignorant ones.
1863, the Monty Python team in Life of Brian would be stoned even more nowadays if what you say "The most popular boys name in the UK is Muhammad. The second most popular is Mohamed' is true !! I have very little Religion myself tbh, but I do have a very high moral compass, albeit with stricter enforcement, and do believe in much more harsh punishments for crime. For example, I would make these Munich airport protesters today pay for all the losses incurred by the 60 cancelled flights to the extent of bankrupting them and/or legally commiting them to pay off unpaid amounts in the future for as long as it takes, eg Eur 5,000 p.a., or face Jail time. Similarly for the other climate protesters, enforce enforce enforce. HSBC lost their case against one climate protester when she wilfully broke windows costing c £300k, couldn't believe it. Justice isn't adequate anymore and the punishments are not a deterrant. If anyone ever wilfully kills a member of my family I'll deal with it myself as inadequate prison time is not enough !!
Bobbins2, enjoying reading ye're chat re society !! I left UK 22 yrs ago and definitely the right decision !!
Your small letters caused by copying in part of your post, the small cap format, which has also happened to me !!
1863...
So before 'ethnics' came to the UK there was no crime? Was it a peaceful utopia?
I was young, but recall the Kray brothers, they were upstanding members of London high society...
Peadophiles? That covers most UK male MP's right there, Jimmy SaVile, Garry Glitter and half the male TV celebrities. These were not ethnics, but let's just blame others shall we. The most horrific crimes against children and mass serial killers happen to all be white men. But let's look the other way shall we and pretend 'Great' Britain would still be 'great' if it was not for those...
Jeez, education is certainly not for the faint-hearted is it.
Also, so what if the most popular name in the UK is Mohammed? That is just the way it is. Who cares? If it bothers you that much, spend more time with the wife than the pub?
More last point, stop blaming immigrants or migrants, blame your government. They use this to divide the country so that they can pass laws under your nose that will impact you directly. I'm a immigrant and an economical migrant living in another country.
All the coming and going caused by migration helps the IAG share price which is the only reason we're all here. Covid stopped migration in its tracks; see how that went for your shares before moaning about people bettering themselves.
Bobbins. Are you on the wine again tonight?
Far better reading than the papers tomorrow morning
Dan66 - yes, well sort of. Smirnoff, not wine.
Woke up today with a somewhat sore head, and a vague notion that I may have come on this forum and embarrassed myself (again), so logged back in to apologise. Turns out I have just sparked an interesting debate, so maybe no apology necessary. Some good posts from other folk, notably fordm, who at some point is definitely due a lifetime POTY award. When I take into account how much I had drunk yesterday, I am impressed with how lucid I was. Not that I advocate boozing.
Anyway, suffice to say that I think this country has multiple serious issues, and appears to be n an inexorable downhill trajectory ( possibly economically, but (more importantly, socially and morally). As somebody far better educated than me said, "You can't eat GDP". What sort of country do you want to live in?
As I alluded to last night, this is still a great country if you are loaded. Chuck me 2 or 3 million quid, and I can retire to rural Sussex, and spend my days getting lashed in beautiful country pubs, and holidaying in the Bahamas. Sorted. Unfortunately, the reality for most of us is very different - and I for one find huge parts of the country are basically no-go zones.
Anyway, I am in danger of repeating last night's drivelling nonsense (I blame the Smirnoff) so I will now retire to my boudoir. Hoping for a better week with the share price next week. Then again, if I had a fiver for every time I have said that, I wouldn't have to mess around with shares - I would be retired to a beach in the Bahamas.
Laters.
PS - Billie Eilish - genius.
I too enjoy reading your post's bobbins. and fordms sober and realistic comments.
when i see the newspaper headlines. (Which is all i ever see on BBC website. as i have yet to find a news agent selling British newspapers where i live). i think is there ever going to be any good news. then i thinks it's a bit like looking for a share that go's up in a straight line. which i am pretty sure iag is not one of them.
still one can live in hope.
Hello tricky,
I've stopped reading news papers as they are far too depressing for sure, and of course all of them have a political drum to beat.
I'm sure you know you could subscribe to a digital copy of a newspaper and have it sent to your email address. Unfortunately the BBC is not what it was and I think its web site is pretty limited actually. There is a lot going on in Europe and the world which they never mention, just my view! From what I have gathered from you, you are probably better off with "The Anglers Times"
Enjoy your Sunday its the Italian GP at Imola.
Thanks casino_kid.
angling times is a much better choice.
you too enjoy your day
Bobbins2, I have a new award in early development.
(B)obbins (AFTA) a drink or BAFTA for short. Do you see what I did there ?
