Kaeren - another getting tiresome with the wee jibs. 79 was Harl’s figure at the point of taking it out of receivership. If you think that’s ‘many’ then fine. It simply said ‘workforce’ it’s reasonable to assume many of that number would have been involved in maintenance and security at that point. We are well aware of what Harl then did.
People seem to forget shipbuilding was not the initial plan, as stated to the BBC and Infra shareholders at the time
But you can convince yourselves otherwise if it helps your delusions
I don't think Alan Haley, head of Engineering at H&W, employed for 34 years ,fits into the category of maintenance and security. He is one of many highly skilled staff retained by Infrastrata , when they took over the yard. They have subsequently made a point of targeting grey beards to ensure the correct balance of experience exists in such a rapidly growing business. So much drivel stated as fact on here and it invariably emanates from the same posters.

From the BBC at the time: "It says it will retain the 79 workers who are still employed, and hopes to increase the workforce by "several hundred" over five years. It initially plans to focus on metal fabrication for the Islandmagee and floating gas storage facilities''
BT, that's what I thought. Friend of a friend tells me there were a handful of long termer (30 years plus) technical and production staff TUPEd over in 2019 but some of those guys have recently retired or moved on.
Interesting that the vessels are in resevre should TSHTF.
"for the strategic transport of military cargoes and vehicles in times of need"
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Point-class_sealift_ship
Are you sure they were just"maintenance and security crews"? Seems a strange reason to be picketing to retain those kind of jobs.
"Robert Childs has worked in the shipyard for 40 years" Was around 57 at the time of Infa getting involved so would be in his early 60's now. He would certainly have been involved in those vessels if he is still there.

Beleive it was around 70 of the 120 employed at the time that didn't take earlery retirement and stayed on.
How strange that Broomtree once again keeps going on about as statement of facts. He likes to make this point add nauseum . However, he often ignorers his own rules. Where are the facts that HARL is creating free cash flow, something that he stated on a number of occasions, strangely enough, just before he sold out.Doesnt strike me as at all trustworthy.
Tired - very few if any given the workforce was tiny when they took over and largely comprised maintenance and security crews, and was over 20 years ago
This thread got me wondering how many of the current workforce actually worked on Anvil Point or Hartland Point?
No wild guesses simple statement of facts. You clearly missed my point that we don’t have any figures. You may be happy flying blind, I’m not. As to ‘operational expenses’ no problem when you’re getting an income from operations but Harl aren’t at the moment and Season will be half over by the time they might have income
As to takeovers…. Ha ha leave you it
No Broomtree again you're wrong. The same principle can be applied to H+W if they were to become a prime contractor to the MOD and then instead of supporting smaller SME in the MOD supply chain; they instead take them over.
Anything outside of the Defense Industry is not relevant to this.
"looks like a serious loss making business at least for a few years" Well you're just doing what you criticise others for and wildly guessing, unless of course you can back this up with known figures ?
website, lease on AW,booking agents, eh yeah! operating costs! why did you not just add in wages and fuel as well. As to £500 on helicopter rides, well the people that availed of this will prob be praising Scilly ferries from the rooftops. probably the cheapest advertisement they will get. considering you mentioned previously that they should be spending at least £250,000 on marketing and promotion..
Stokey,
"Did" build ships. Monumental difference to "Does" in terms of context.
Just seen this thread on the UK Defence Journal twitter feed https://twitter.com/UKDefJournal/status/1787062396973928493 In my view this is short sighted there should be a greater spread of work across all shipyards as the danger is that the Scottish shipyards will reach capacity leading to delays in vessels being built and entering service.
Not sure if anything that Broomtree says can be taken seriously. After all he thinks that HARL is producing Free Cash Flow.
Broomtree ref 13.21 post in relation to your point on my Anvil post your criticism is with all due respect unfair. In my post I referenced a comment from Professor Taylor before the Northern ireland Affairs Committee. During his evidence he made a comment about the quality of work by HARL in the past.
Scaff - got you, only applies to harl competition, forget the principle outside that!
Then you suggest it’s the governments fault Harl decided to get into the ferry business? What looks like a serious loss making business at least for a few years? Examples - cancelled lease on AW, new lease purchase on new AW, Lost nearly half the Season, purchase of multiple smaller vessels, one family getting £500 of helicopter flights due to cancellation (and a lot more with it), website, booking agents etc its endless and we haven’t a clue of the actually cost, despite being promised an update when the initial freight deal completed which was Dec/Jan?
Stokey - you need to get over yourself with the tiresome jibs. It’s not always possible to post links whilst on a phone…. If you don’t trust my info just scroll on by…. To the best of my knowledge it’s not a requirement to post links - it was a comment for general info
Whilst I’m here, your Anvil post is meaningless, that was built by a different company (in all but name), under very different circumstances regarding infrastructure and capabilities
Oh, appently it was on the market for £125,000.
Found the actual vessel. It moored alongside the Samson in Penzance at the mo. Named the "Offshore Endeavour" and was used out of PadStien.

https://www.marinetraffic.com/en/photos/of/ships/shipid:6666352/shipname:OFFSHORE%20ENDEAVOUR?order=date_uploaded
Has upset some of the locals who operate these types of small vessels for a living though.
Sealinks FB guy said
"stepping on locals who rely on that annual income is definitely not a great move - H&W would of been far better off sub contracting initially with the charter boats in place rather than going down the route they seem to be going - just all seems quite disjointed and knee jerk….."
This article shows that contary to what Professor Taylor suggested before the Northern Ireland Select Committee HARL does build ships that last. https://www.military.africa/2024/05/british-military-sealift-vessel-anvil-points-refueling-stop-in-south-africa/ I note that Anvil Point was the last major vessel built by HARL and 22 years later it is still in service. I wonder if HARL will get the contract for the next refit.
No worries, Stokey. Found another pic of them testing out the new vessel.

Si_Derman ref 10.30 post thanks for that it is Sunday so my brain is resting.
It's on the Scilly Ferries Facebook page, Stokey. Clue was , "it’s on facebook. " ;)
JW posted a pic of said boat. Not sure if this link will work, but....
https://scontent-lhr8-2.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t39.30808-6/438169136_10231360534013208_8358044097962598884_n.jpg?stp=cp6_dst-jpg_p100x100&_nc_cat=106&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=5f2048&_nc_ohc=gG4oB1YHU9oQ7kNvgGqVAQX&_nc_ht=scontent-lhr8-2.xx&oh=00_AfAsFM5gRYmRULeVlObEQ3AA5lFaXCfFxF7KM808XAhkHw&oe=663D3759
Twin outboard motors so if bumpy it should be reasonably quick.
Further from earlier. " H&W have taken payment for ferry ticket prices , guaranteeing helicopter seats should boat not be in service by then ." So the money is flowing in. Divi's soon then. :)
Levsinvest ref 09.16 post do you know what is supposed to be where the asterisks are. You may need to put some spaces in.
it’s on facebook.
https://www.********************471788599637917/permalink/2837736199709800/
Yeah, any chance of a link BT. I looked last night when it was posted and found nothing on the Scilly Ferries site. Could see no obvious mention of anything on the Air and Sea links FB page either so gave up looking. Noticed this on the company site which read as if they have decided to pretty much given up on this season.
"Our first season schedule fits around existing operators and we look forward to working with both harbours to develop our schedule for Season 2 and beyond..."
It would seem they don't much of a choice, fitting around, without a boat. Of a size that would make it worthwhile at least. Although, people who did pre-book seem more than happy to be getting free helicopter rides. So that should stand them in good stead for customer satisfaction for future bookings. But at the expense of the company before they have taken any paying customers. It would seem they don't much of a choice, without a boat. Of a size that would make it worthwhile at least.
The whole endevour, has been a total waste of time and effort, imo. A distractionary sideshow for very little gain. The only saving grace, afaics, might be the freight side as that could be usefully employed in the main business between the yards. Certainly not, "On time and on schedule", as JW likes to say.
Anyway, rant over, enjoy the rest of the long w/e all. :)
