The Environment Minister has already explained that the assurance that there will be no drilling was in reference to new licence applications, not existing licence applications. There is a deliberate misinterpretation from the environmentalists on this matter, to fit their agenda.
Seems like many government or ex-government members are in bed with BPC. Ultimately dollar value of oil volumes will decide this.
The snowflakes are always in danger of melting when the temperature rises slightly.
Not if as they say, misled! Have seen other cases that have gone past time limit, be heard!
Bahamas Petroleum Company plc
("Bahamas Petroleum" or the "Company")
Perseverance #1 Environmental Authorisation Granted
Highlights:
·; Environmental Authorisation granted by The Government of The Bahamas for the Company's 100% owned and operated Perseverance #1 well, expected to spud in April 2020, targeting recoverable prospective resources of 0.7 - 1.4 billion barrels of oil
·; Authorisation represents the conclusion of an extensive and thorough process over many years, involving local and international agencies, independent third-party expert consultants, and extensive engagement across all aspects of Government
Environmental Authorisation
Following a considerable body of work, engagement and consultation both before and further to submission for an Environmental Authorisation ("EA") by the Company in April 2018, the Bahamas Minister of Environment (the "Minister"), upon notice of a "no objection" from the Bahamas Environment Science & Technology Commission (the "BEST Commission), has today granted the requisite EA to the Company for the proposed activities associated with the drilling of the Perseverance #1 well.
The EA has been granted by the Minister in accordance with Regulation 3 of the Bahamian Petroleum (Offshore Environmental Protection and Pollution Control) Regulations 2016, and was made on the basis that the Ministry of the Environment and Housing (the "Ministry" or "MOE&H") is satisfied, having regard to all information made available to it, that the Company be allowed to undertake the activities the subject of the EA. The Company notes that the grant of the EA confirms that the potential impacts associated with the Company's intended drilling activities have been adequately and appropriately noted and suitably addressed by the proposed mitigation measures outlined in the EA as submitted by the Company, and were in accordance with all laws and regulations applicable in The Bahamas, as well as applicable performance measures or guidelines established by international bodies, standards, conventions, treaties and maritime laws.
Drill is fully funded but nice try
There are legally three months to appeal from any decision. So the appeal against BPC to drill is well over.
Think they are playing on "they were misled". That can open a new can of worms, and always seems to cause delays!
Calm down folks.

The immediate issue though is how, and how quickly, that decision can be made.
Wright...they had time enough..6 months is 6 months!not 9
It’s gone past the 6 months so I really don’t understand how they can....

Yes, how long does it take for the Court not to accept the application? Is the judge sitting reading it with his coffee and his breakfast roll? Is he about to stamp it “REJECT”? Or is is not as simple as that?

Yeah... less than 1k miles to go... 6 days & counting.
Looks like the situation could explode very soon.
Would not want to be holding this if things get held up. BPC dont have the cash to drill as it stands and need to use CLN or something to raise more cash............ a further delay and legal problems would be very nasty.
6 months max!!!now 9 months,it will be rejected immediately!
I meant if the courts didn’t accept the application.

Undoubtedly. The question is how long it takes to throw something out “immediately”!

It is interesting to note how BPC’s narrative on this well and what it is for seems to have changed over time. Maybe it was just a case of looking beyond the spin - maybe the current narrative was always in the small print. But BPC’s recent clarification on this point certainly took many on here by surprise.
