It's closed £1.78 down, or 67p down adjusted for the divi. So could have sold yesterday and bought back today fir a better return even with dealing costs and stamp duty. Having said that, it's a relatively modest drop with the markets dash for cash following the invasion of Ukraine. It's actually a good safe haven defensive stock, so should recover.
No, you're right. I was just suggesting that it's unfortunate that on XD day there should be a major event out in the world that would/could significantly affect the SP. It would have been informative for investors to have seen the level to which it would have settled and which way it would move after the XD drop.
Have i got this correct with my sums?
XD today for circ£1.12p ($1.50) a share
So you would expect the stock price to drop in proportion to that divi. Off 137p as i type.
If i take the divi from that it's just a 25p drop
If i'm right that doesn't seem too bad
Prepared to be corrected

... to go ex-div! < rolls eyes >
Still a better than 4% yield on this interim divi alone. Today's the last day to buy and secure it. Very interested to see how much it gets dropped tomorrow, ex-div. This is a long term hold for me though, I'm pivoting to high yield div stocks now.
This interim dividend alone yields over 4% at the current share price. Almost all trades are algos, so they are being rational by their own rules, which involve scalping pennies in micro-seconds. The yield will determine the long term trend, while algos determine the minute by minute trend. This isn't really a share to be watching non stop like a volatile AIM share. Just kick back and enjoy the yield.
@foolishlearner,thanks.
I googled it and ex divi came up as 22March…I clearly misunderstood.
ATB
ex24/2 pay 28/3
When is the ex divi date ?
Urraca - like you. I am vey optimistic about. BHP. and. commodities in general. Re. the. BHP. div. I think the. final. dividend. may not be. up. to. your. expectations. as the iron ore price. has. reduced. about. 25% from last. year. Perhaps a. final. div .of about. 2.00 is more likely..-Fingers. crossed!
But falling SP?
So good they mentioned it twice in the headline announcemnet. 39.5% definitely not to be sniffed at.
I wonder why the SP is still falling, though?
True. But much more opps for small guys in AIM. Big boys not allowed or not enough liquidity.
If i had millions id be happy to make a few percent in divis and growth for a quiet life.
Give it time. If the final dividend rises by the same huge amount, total divi this year would be around £3.33. That's a 13% yield. Which has to be a significant alpha indicator, its certainly above inflation. So I would expect the price to rise to secure that. As for the giant trades, I've seen a suggestion over on a d v f n that there are shorts that need to close. But for a company valued at £127bn, trades of a few mill are nothing really. This is where the real money is, not desperate PI rainbow chasers sweating over their few grand on AIM.
Was expecting this to fly today not so far.
I deal in AIM more often.
The huge multimillon pound buys late reported on this yesterday are they normal?
Some were after hours. Were they brokers and spreadbet firms and the like tidying up days trading?
Or were they people in the know?
Just interested.
That's a monster interim divi of £1.11 a share. Wowsers.
Results now on website,
Just scanned, they look good
$1.50 (U.S) Dividend.
Need to read more!
nimrod,
Yes and Melbourne is 11 hours in front of us so we SHOULD be able to Google the results before we go to bed tonight!
Really looking forward to them, they SHOULD be quite good!
15 February 2022, 8:30 AM Melbourne time (approximate) BHP Results.
LSE indicates it as being on the 16th??
Sleeper...Approaching ATH's....just how I like it :)
Interestingly UFO Alien Metals has high-grade Iron Ore projects that border BHP:
https://www.alienmetals.uk/projects/wa-iron-ore/
UFO's tenements were obtained via a ballot which BHP, Rio & FMG also applied for. In Western Australia if more than one company applies it goes to ballot.
UFO is set to become the next WA iron ore producer.
UFO has a tiny market cap of £40m compared to BHP's Mkt Cap of £127bn.
2022 looking great for both BHP & UFO. ATB, Max.
With thanks to Waldron on A D V F N, Macquarie are forecasting an interim divi of $1.30, up 29% yoy. Would imply a full year divi of circa $3.90 if the same percentage uplift applies to the final divi, or £2.88. Suggests at least 10% upside to the share price - it would still be yielding over 10%.
