I checked with BHP. by e-mail and the advised. the. Woodside Shares. would be. credited . to. my account in. June.
OK, thanks for the info, never come across 'in specie' before. I presume the new Woodside shares will just appear in my Barclays ISA account in a couple of months time?
No, Keith, you'll receive Woodside shares pro rata. "The current estimate of the dividend entitlement is that BHP shareholders will receive one Woodside Share for every 5.5340 BHP shares."
See, eg, Investopedia:
https://www.investopedia.com/terms/i/in_specie.asp
Just quickly glanced at RNS, so are we all getting $4.62 (Sterling equivalent) per BHP share as a special dividend paid into our ISA's?
As I understand the RNS, the in specie Woodside share distribution would be subject to income tax (and presumably the NHI surcharge) at one's marginal rate based on the value of Woodside's shares on the distribution date.
For CGT purposes it seems that one will create a new base cost for the Woodside shares equivalent to the para above, but there would be no downward adjustment to one's existing BHP base cost as a counterbalance.
Are there other interpretations.
My personal opinion, is not to be topping up at the top of the cycle in commodities, and hold it on your nominee account and top up lower down end of year
Simple answer to this dividend payout.
i work for a brokerage firm, and this is a common question we get every month.
Brokers have to make profit, so invariably hold an extra few days. if we don’t we would charge an admin charge for arranging this collection of monies each month.
BPinvestor I was transferred from EQI to ii and I have the same issue with Duke Royalty (DUKE) as I now have with BHP with regard to dividend reinvestment's.
My strategy going forward with BHP is to reinvest the dividends back in to BHP together with left over dividend money from Rio & GLEN dividend reinvestment's.
The other difference I have noticed with ii is that they take 48 hours to reinvest the dividends where as EQI only took 24 hours!
Just for info. I am with Barclays and they reinvested my divi in same fashion as last couple of years. I didn't need to do anything.
PhoenixRising53, quite right. Just discovered this fact this morning (I too am with ii).
It ticks me off, I'm with ii, after being transferred from "The share centre".
I know it's because the have come off the the FTSE 100, but would have been nice, if they had sent me an email, informing me of the change (how hard is that ?) instead of me finding out the hard way.
This is not the first time my accounts have a change made, without informing me. Can't say I'm impressed with their client personal service.
Just in case there is anyone out there who is expecting the dividend to be automatically be reinvested in shares that is not going to happen, at least with ii that is. Now that BHP is listed on the Australian market the dividend is paid in £'s but you have to buy the shares on a manual basis.
In mine today (interactive investor)
This morning I've received a secure message from HL informing me of the unification of BHP’s dual listed structure that occurred on 31 January. They apologise for the delay in the notification. So it's possible that other brokers are generally delayed with some of the admin for this stock. Either way, dividends will arrive eventually.
I still hold my BHP in my certificated account and the monies are in my bank account today no problem.
Barclays. I'm pretty seriously fed up with them. I'll transfer next tax year - I've got an investment isa.
Who's you're broker? I've received mine into an HL account. It won't be paid into my bank account until sometime towards the middle of next month.
Anyone had their divi yet? Thought it was due to be paid today.
pressure from rising interest rates in USA will possibly be the biggest headwind against this going forward. DB a brokerage i don’t particularly follow has a target of 2100p, though JOM has 2900p. big contrast to where banks see mining companies go.
probably cause no one buys into big spikes, though RIO does trade cheaper and has more profits from Iron Ore than BHP.
My thinking also that it’s quieter here is possibly from the delisting from the FTSE which has confused some people; that you can still trade it.
i own both, along with OXY, SHEL & BP.
back up to £28.23 now........could be spiking further
