Would. any other (income ) investors like to tell me what percentage of their portfolio is in. tobacco? For info, I have 3 1/2 % in BATS and 1 1/2 % (one and a half) in IMB. Thanks.
Kentio,
IMB: 3.70% by valuation; 3.76% by projected dividend income
BATS: 3.00% by valuation; 3.90% by projected dividend income
Guitarsolo
18%
Needs lowering.
Don't do this at home kids.
IMB 9%
BATS 6%
I've held IMB since i bought in after the covid crash.
I'm still well in profit + dividends & the % was higher, but i sold some at near 2100p & some at 1800p+ (the day of the last full ex-dividend date).
I hold LGEN at 8% & others such as UKW, DEC & LLoy are around 6%
"Would. any other (income ) investors like to tell me what percentage of their portfolio is in. tobacco?"
4% now but I wish it was zero.
15% (didn't notice it becoming such a chunk ^^ )
But it's okay for now, hopefully. Lacking of comparably alternatives it's one of the few so called "nobrainers" I seek investing in.
If you know something else this bombed, yet healthy... you're welcome
Up to 40% of my holdings now, only so large because.
1. cashed out on most other shares as needed the money.
2. averaged down a bit with another 200 shares today as think this has bottomed, it seems to have hit this low several times over the last year but I could be wrong
My extra 200 sold today for a little profit. likely to rebuy if it drops back below £23 and might sell a few more if it climbs to £25-£26. every little counts. glah
Nice work. Never foolish to take a little profit. Have set a sell order for one small tranche myself, but might cancel it if we close above the 200 today.
I have a slightly bigger position than I would ideally like in some ways, but equally, as things stand, I do not think we are expensive at even 10% higher than the current SP.
Combine that opinion with the big dividend and it is IMO easier to be patient. But time will tell. GLA.
Agreed, seems like the SP has recovered. Should see this keep rising IMO
LWHL - can you. say what % of your portfolio. is in BATS? Just for interest. as I have. 4%
Roughly 9% at the time of print. A bit of an overweight position and not really intended, but I just felt it was so undervalued in the high 22's that I 'flexed' my risk parameters somewhat and bought a few more tranches.
I will trim some though in the 25's now and more in the 26's. 28 quid and I will look to underweight my position here. If we get there of course. Who knows etc? GLA.
I decided to take a few off the table for a small profit. Still quite a bit overweight here, but more comfortable adding those back, should we get a retrace to the 23's on no company-specific news.
Still my largest holding and fairly relaxed at the time of print, which probably means you should all run for the hills :) GLA.
Sliced mine again this morning now BATS down to 10% of my protfolio, will grab back again if it drops back, if not will just hold remaining small stake for divi.
10% is a lot of a portfolio to hold in BATS
Whilst the yield remains a key lure, recently it hasn't been enough to compensate for capital losses.
Current short term valuations are also quite weak so keeping the share just for the dividend doesn't make financial sense to me as an investor.
Anyone know why BATS is slipping back ? The UK Govt has even excluded their prized Tobacco bill today, thus won't even be discussed for many months....... 🤣🤣🤣
Although BATS has fallen away past few years, with the share buy back for cancellation and still generating huge cash one would think we should hold up and potentially increase a little from such lows. Also the yields is very attractive and it’s a good fund managers share where they boast yields one would think.
A yield of c.10% should more than compensate for capital loss. 5 years at 10% = 50%. Bats. sp. unlikely to fall. that much.
I travel. the world a lot and. I assure you smoking is. still going. strong. Presently in Morocco where it is hard to find a non smoking male. I am in an apartment above a tabac and there is a constant stream of. customers. Then think of. China - 40% are smokers. Throughout. Africa. there is little or no education about the health problems which can arise.
Kentio, only with FTSE 100 names do I hear people proudly announcing that their dividends have offset capital losses. This isn't something that anyone really sets out to do when investing...Divis are supposed to be icing on the cake.
Agreed re the rest of the world smoking though, 40-50% of men in most high population countries smoke. Because "this is what real men do", or so clients tell me in China, Russia, Indonesia, Turkey, Egypt etc.
Agreed, I only made the comment because of an earlier post by "Clank"
Currently in Morocco I note that the majority of. young men smoke - and probably will be hooked. for. life.
Not. good for them but good for investors. Heavy cannabais. smoking too - I believe Bats are into cannabis through an investment in a. Canadian. company
