BAT has changed my life, but as always with the stock market, it is impossible to tell what will happen tomorrow, next week, next month.

My first purchase of BAT was at 240p, but I had no idea whether that was the time to buy, or not. The business just appealed to me as being hugely profitable and past growth had been strong. I could see that it should be resilient during economic recessions and that proved right during the many economic and stock market crashes.

Many years later (buy and hold has always been my strategy), revenue growth became more difficult, but with 'loyal' customers price momentum has allowed eps growth to continue.

The sudden and unforseen (timing) upward relating, was welcome this year and what will happen to the share price now, I have no idea. If the eps can continue to make progress, then the share price will eventually reflect that.

Successful equity investment is a game of patience. Short-term buying and selling is a game of chance.

Best of luck everyone. If you want an extra company to research, you might like Compass Group plc. Another business that I have held for a long time. When the pandemic began, catering was of course the worst sector to be in, but the quality of the management was proven by the very rapid recovery after COVID19.

I fluked this one buying in the low 2000s'and selling very close to 3000s'

It was meant to be part of my divi portfolio but felt it gained too quick. I want back in but spy an opportunity to get in lower than today with how markets may start reacting.

@fogthemogg - I can't see why the dividend won't be maintained given that BAT's is buying back tens of thousands of it's own shares each day. Earnings are still robust, new products are picking up in sales & the dividend has been well covered of late.

With how today's markets are acting, i can see this sliding back down to 2300-2400p range (if it does i'll certainly buy more)

PM PE is 24.00 x yield 4.45%

BATS PE 7,25. x yield 8.38%

Perhaps it should think about becoming American British Tobacco

BATS got a nice bounce from the summer wobble and recession fear narrative. Despite this pullback, surely with more rate cuts on the horizon and assuming the divi is maintained, we have to get above 3000p again.
