I recall way back at one of the shoes 18/24 months ago the continental booth looked very "rudimentary ", I can only surmise that they are leveraging our products one way or the other.
Most likely I think. That list of staff members that John C posted a short while ago, of Conti staff now employed at SM in the last 2 years or so, gives an indication of that.
I would agree that it is us delivering the dms, bullish statements from our management confirming we are world leaders convince me that they arent using their own dms.
Yeah I agree with the others here. This could very well be SEE tech. We've worked with Continental in the past and I would say it's pretty unlikely that a T1 would be bothered to develop this end point system for themselves when they can almost certainly deploy it cheaper by partnering with a supplier who has already done the leg work. All they need to do is provide the glue to make it into a combined system with something else.
Good news I would say.
He joined SM as number two to Nick DF, so not exactly counting paperclips.
The conti system should be a worry for Veoneer or Aptiv or Bosch, not us as they will all use SM.

I know it is not great calling out individual employees but Linkedin is quite interesting - a previous employee from Continental who had been there for 19 years joined SEE in Detriot in May this year...at Continental he was the Global Ford Customer Head for Instrumentation and Driver HMI
So conti has now developed an appropriate solution in the form of a combined camera system comprising an inward-looking infra-red camera and an outward-looking camera.
Sounds like they combined 2 things and thats their 'solution'.
Could easy be SEE and we did work with them a few years ago.
Odd Semi refers to OEM8 - we believe to be BMW extra and our rns focussed on saying it was all about being ready for ENcap.
planned for 2021 does not mean ready, we know these things take longer than announced.
Could be SM aswell? have to wait and see in a couple years time.
At the later point, the “Road AND Driver” camera from Continental will already be on the market, with the start of series production planned for 2021.
We are ready NOW
It would be quite a boon if it transpires they have developed an all in one system but that uses SM software.... Entirely plausible.
I have seen no evidence that Conti inhouse.
Jury still out for me on SM or inhouse

What I would like Semicast to answer is:
1. Do they have real time data?
2. Can their DMS be connected to steering/braking?
3. How much did they spend on R&D?
We don't know if the Conti DMS was developed in house or not. Also, whilst I don't have recent broker notes at hand, I thought OEMs were wary to go with Tier 1s for in house devloped DMS, the concern being they may be less inclined to spend on R&D for what is a niche product.
Do we have any idea of how good their product is?
SEE has spent a (not so small) fortune on developing and refining their systems, they've also got a huge database of real time data to help refine that and are moving in to Human Factors way beyond head position and eye gaze. Have Conti gone anywhere near as deep on theirs?
Yes, they may have an all in one system but surely a deal with one of our strategic partners will offer much the same benefit?
But now when I think about it. The testing protocols from NCAP are yet to be released for DMS. It is easy to say that you meet NCAP requirements when they have not determined yet. I still go with Dr Mike who said that they see a lot of flashy demonstrations but the DMS need to work all the time in all conditions. Semicast research is at one moment very bullish about SEE, the next he contradicts himself.

Major development here. Looks like first Tier 1 developed standard safety DMS. Should meet any NCAP testing protocols. DW8 probably looks a lot like this. Other OEMs now have access to a standard DMS solution.
