because they didn't actually hold the shares themselves
I wonder what the logic was behind the timing of GMT capital's short, it was pretty much directly before things started to move off the 9-10p range. Seems like cuckoo timing to me. In the past they seems to have got it right with Nanoco, but not this time.
GMT Capital closed thier short positions yesterday and today.

Re Apple: as reported on patentlyapple.com
Apple places emphasis on the iPhone's camera and display each and every year. At one point in time Apple may shift to Quantum Dot OLED to take Apple's displays to yet another dimension. and in a new patent application published this morning, we're able to see that Apple is once again pushing their Quantum Dot – OLED technology further.
The timing is interesting considering that Samsung just announced that they'll be investing US$11 Billion shifting from Quantum Dot-LCD to Quantum Dot-OLED with mass production aimed for 2022. Apple's vision for future displays seems to be on track with the best minds in the industry.
first reported on Apple's work on Quantum Dot displays back in 2014 in a report titled "Quantum Dots Could Take the Retina Display to the Next Level." It was filed in 2012 or seven years ago. Since that time we posted several other reports on Apple's work on Quantum Dot display (01, 02, 03) including two patents being granted patents in 2019 (01 & 02).
Today the US Patent & Trademark Office published a patent application from Apple titled "Quantum Dot based Pixel Assembly."
PP: I did refer to this as a rumor, propagated in the "Touch Display Research" report produced by someone who has been reporting on the QD market since 2008 and has interviewed hundreds of companies. In this instance, the author interviewed 131 companies in depth.
I admit to being somewhat confused regarding the trial date. I had seen the approximate date of the trial, but never an exact date. It was only after the Markman Hearing that I first heard that a definite trial date had been set. I welcome any clarification on this matter. I suspect that they choosing a jury prior to setting a court date is highly unlikely.
"The rise is due to the steadily clearing haze about just how strong nano’s case has been. "
Absolutely correct, 100% it's why I loaded up on 10p shares. This rise was entirely predictable IMO. The market had severely underestimated the case value and its likely prospects of success. Right now the share price represents a fair balance of risk for what might come next.
BTB, re Nigwit, even a broken clock is right twice a day...
The most recent leg up might be due to the Apple rumour. But that doesn’t explain the journey from 10-15p 15-20p... etc.
The rise is due to the steadily clearing haze about just how strong nano’s case has been. The RNS provided further clarity about cash runways and a bullish statement on the case. All logically help to explain the rise.
If there happens to be something going down with Apple tjen that is great news, but the fact Mr Wit keeps spouting forth about us ‘all falling for this markman nonsense’ tells you more about how much he hates to be wrong than anything else.
Big rumours (untrue, possible, probable..) have a much greater impact on sp nowadays. If it’s true nano is worth more than 40-50p imo.
Imo even if just quantum dots become really hot in new tech applications nano are undervalued with or without apple.
None of the usual Twitter pumpers are here.So I would conclude the rise is from the slightly more educated.
" speculation surrounding an early settlement is completely unfounded"
We have documents from the court: surely that's far more foundation than mere rumours about fruit?
Not saying he-who-must-not-be-named is wrong, just that his opinion is (typically) based more on conviction than evidence.
We all remember the picture posted with Nanoco’s Heatwave dots posted to a Dr within Apple Corp (no one took a screen print!). I wonder if other shipments have been made.
Amerloque - is there anything that substantiates this rumour re Apple and quantum dots?
It has - shortly after jury selection on 4 October.
I thought the final trial date had already been set before the markman?
Yesterday's rise is likely due to rumor that Apple will commit to quantum dots within a year and, to a lesser extent, the positive feedback from the Markman Hearing. It seems also that, following the Markman Hearing, the judge set the date for the jury trial. If true, this would indicate a positive trial outcome. Had Markman not been positive, it is doubtful that he would have set a final trial date.
I still think it’s rising due to where us tech is going right now and nano’s potential, not the markman. Can move quickly on relatively little volume
To all of the hardened long term holders, I salute you.
We are here together.
Slowly but surely we are winning the game.
I feel a little bit gutted that I went down from 2m shares down to my current 410,000, but I took some nice money out, and have 410,000 shares for free to let ride.
Keeping my fingers crossed for myself and everyone else.
Not getting onto the LSE very often now, as busy with work......although, when this gets to £2+, I think that will be the end of work for me.
Shame my RR, IAG, Hurricane and all the other investments I have aren't doing what Nano is currently doing, but hey....... we knew Nano would eventually come through.
Congratulations everyone, cannot wait for the big jump.
Spread on HL seems very high. Only 27.4 quoted to sell but 29.9 quoted to buy. Are they expecting volitility?
The truth pays in the end.
Time is money but also money is time.
BTB I suppose time will tell.
I remember you’ve been bearish since 15p, based on what has transpired, the market does not agree with your assessment of the situation.
I still don’t think the upside gains are priced in. Based purely on a paltry settlement figure and discounting all licensing going forward puts the SP at no less than 80p.
There is of course downside risk but at 30p, anyone who’s done their homework on the patent side of things and the markman presentations knows it’s surely worth a punt.
BTB at least you are consistent. You have had a slightly cautious/negative approach here since you sold a chunk of you holding. We wait to see whether you made the right decision. Personally I expect this to be MUCH higher IF we get a good markman result and no IPR (which I think is better than a 50-50 chance) . A poor markman result or an IPR being instigated and I think the SP would almost certainly take a significant hit. Not long to wait!
Money talks , we will see , worth a punt for me
30p now it’s getting interesting, gla
Iv just bought another £8000 ,iam willing to take a punt , if it goes are way the sp could be huge , well worth the risk gla
The rise very reminiscent of the jump we got from 15-20p last month so a slight retrace wouldn’t be out the question. Wouldn’t be surprised to see it keep nudging north until the judge’s report. 30p still looks cheap for a seat at the table given the upside potential.
In all honesty the rise had to happen as I sold a chunk of mine last week, about a tenth, to reinvest in somewhere for a short term gain. When will I ever learn. Lol.
