The project involved the delivery of 6,500 high capacity secure smartcards,known as "ISAMs" (ITSO Security Application Modules), as part of a nationalinitiative. This project represents a significant step forward in makingsmartcard transport ticketing a reality in Scotland. The ISAMs will be installed in terminals aboard buses and passenger carryingferries, acting as card-reading devices, to enable the 1.2 million smartcardsbeing issued by the Improvement Service on behalf of Scottish Local Authoritiesto be authenticated and operate as transport tickets.
