Long life supercapacitor R&D programme

CAP-XX announces that as part of its ongoing R&D programme, it is in the process of developing a long life supercapacitor, a summary of which will be covered in a video presentation on R&D to be released by the Company today.

Through ongoing R&D, CAP-XX believes a truly long life supercapacitor is close to reality. The technology that makes up the new long life supercapacitor product uses IP developed by CAP-XX that is currently the subject of patent applications. Experimentation to date has shown that such a device could have an estimated life span of 30 years continuous operation at 30 degrees Celsius or more than 3 times current life.

Further development work is underway to improve operating windows for devices made with this technology. Development work is also underway into the modifications required to existing manufacturing lines to produce the product for market. These improvements will be applied to our existing product lines including the new PIP2 and Thinline products.

It is expected the initial launch product for the long life supercapacitor technology will be in the small form factor devices of between 0.1 and 3 Farads, similar in size and shape to devices currently sold by CAP-XX. The markets for such a device are in smart meters, smart buildings, medical devices, solid state drives and automotive applications, where product life performance criteria are often very demanding.

Further R&D work will be conducted throughout 2016 and samples for customer evaluation are expected to be delivered in H2 2016. The official product launch is anticipated as middle of 2017.

The video will be available at: Proactive Investors on http://www.proactiveinvestors.co.uk/companies/stocktube/4505/cap-xx-vp-on-product-development-4505.html and on the CAP-XX website shortly.
